We operate the RAPS Animal Hospital, the RAPS Cat Sanctuary, the RAPS Adoption & Education Centre, and several thrift stores. Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care to animals and the people who love them.We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our team and support our commitment to exceptional, humane, and ethical veterinary care.Position OverviewThe Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians, delivers high-quality medical care, and ensures the well-being of animals including dogs, cats, small mammals, reptiles, and birds. This role requires technical expertise, compassion, attention to detail, and strong communication to provide outstanding client and patient experience.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Patient CareConduct patient assessments, examinations, and diagnostic proceduresTake vital signs, collect samples, administer medications and vaccinesProvide wound care and assist with safe animal restraintPrepare for and assist during surgical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring, intubation, and surgical site prepProvide post-operative care and operate diagnostic equipment such as x-ray, ultrasound and laboratory toolsClient Service & CommunicationDeliver excellent customer service in person, by phone, and electronicallyEducate clients on medication administration, home care,



and general pet healthMaintain positive and respectful interactions with staff, volunteers, and RAPS membersHospital OperationsMaintain sanitary, sterile conditions in treatment and surgical areasDocument patient conditions, treatments, and updates with accuracyMaintain and troubleshoot medical equipment; coordinate repairs as neededAssist with inventory control and stocking suppliesContribute to a team-oriented, cooperative, no-kill workplace cultureCore Skills & CompetenciesSurgical assistance and preparationDiagnostic and radiology equipment operationAccurate medication administrationSafe and effective animal restraintLaboratory sample collection including but not limited to venipuncture, and cystocentesisEquipment maintenanceStrong documentation and record-keeping abilitiesExcellent communication, professionalism, and patience – proficiency in EnglishAbility to train new team membersHigh attention to detail and strong observational abilitiesEffective problem-solving and critical-thinking skillsCommitment to RAPS' mission, vision, and no‐kill valuesRequired to have surgical experience with anesthesia, and anesthetic monitoring for soft tissue procedures such as but not limited to ovariohysterectomy, castration, and lumpectomies for canine and feline patients.Preferred QualificationsExperience with dental procedures (COHAT)Familiarity with IDEXX and EzyVet softwareRegistration with the BC Veterinary Technologists Association (asset, not required)Working ConditionsFast-paced veterinary hospital environmentRequires both independent work and collaboration with veterinarians and support staff#J-18808-Ljbffr
