Junior Accountant

Full time | In-Office

Reports Directly to the Controller

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our team in the General Contracting, Civil Construction, Forestry, and Aggregates & Sand sectors.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, staying organized, and supporting a busy accounting department. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting functions of the business, with a primary focus on accounts payable, credit card reconciliations, fuel card reconciliations, and helping to implement and maintain accounting processes and procedures.

This position will also work closely with, and provide support to, the Project Accountant and Controller as needed.

Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Daily Accounting

- Process high-volume vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
- Match invoices to purchase orders, receipts, and supporting documentation
- Ensure coding is accurate and expenses are allocated to the correct jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts
- Prepare and process cheque runs, EFTs, and vendor payments
- Respond to vendor inquiries and assist with resolving invoice discrepancies




- Assist Project Accountant with tracking of subcontractor project draws, deficiency and lien holdbacks
- Assist with remittance filings as directed

Reconciliations & Expense Oversight

- Reconcile company credit card statements and ensure receipts and supporting documents are submitted and coded correctly
- Reconcile fuel card statements and monitor usage, allocations, and reporting
- Identify missing information, discrepancies, or unusual transactions and follow up as needed
- Assist in maintaining accurate and organized records for all reconciliations and support documentation

Process Improvement & Administrative Support

- Assist with the implementation, organization, and maintenance of accounting processes and internal procedures
- Help ensure accounting workflows are completed consistently and accurately
- Support the accounting team with document management, filing, and maintaining organized digital and physical records
- Assist with month-end preparation and account reconciliations

Team Support

- Provide day-to-day support to the Project Accountant and Controller
- Assist with job costing, reporting, data entry, and project-related accounting tasks as needed
- Support other accounting and administrative functions during peak periods or as business needs evolve

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field is preferred




- 3-5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
- Experience in construction, civil construction, contracting, or a project-based environment is considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding of; Accounts payable, Account reconciliations, Basic accounting principles, Data entry accuracy and recordkeeping
- Comfortable working with Sage 100 Contractor and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Must have a vehicle for commuting - Transit not accessible
