POSITION SUMMARY The Junior Bookkeeper supports the Finance/Accounting department by performing day-to-day bookkeeping duties, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, data entry, and general ledger support. This is an entry-level role suited to a detail-oriented individual looking to build a career in accounting and bookkeeping within a supportive team workplace.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process accounts payable: verify, code, and enter vendor invoices; prepare payment runs (cheque, EFT, e-transfer) for approval.
- Process accounts receivable: generate and send client invoices; record and apply payments; follow up on overdue accounts.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Enter and code financial transactions in the general ledger under the supervision of the Controller/Finance Manager.
- Assist with payroll processing support, including timesheet collection and data entry (final payroll approval remains with the Controller/Finance Manager).
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing working papers and schedules.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential financial records and filing systems (physical and digital).
- Respond to routine inquiries from vendors, clients, and staff regarding invoices, payments, and account status.
- Assist with the preparation of basic financial reports as requested.
- Comply with all company policies and applicable legislation, including Manitoba's Employment Standards Code, Human Rights Code,
and Workplace Safety and Health Act.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller/Finance Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Post-secondary coursework, certificate, or diploma in bookkeeping, accounting, or business administration is an asset.
Experience:
- 0–2 years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related administrative experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) is an asset but not required — training will be provided.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data entry.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel and general computer literacy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills; able to meet recurring deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and personal information.
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles (debits/credits, general ledger) or willingness to learn.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD New employees serve an initial probationary period of three (3) months, during which performance and fit for the role are assessed.
Pay: $37,500.00-$45,000.00 per year
