Position Overview
Crust Craft is seeking a motivated and organized Junior HSE Champion to provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) department.
This is an entry-level developmental position designed for an individual who is interested in learning about workplace health and safety within a food manufacturing environment. The Junior HSE Champion will work under the direction of the HSE Coordinator and assist with routine inspections, documentation, employee engagement activities, record keeping, and other assigned HSE tasks.
Training and guidance will be provided. As the employee gains experience and demonstrates competency, additional duties may be introduced.
Key Responsibilities
- Routine Safety Inspections: Complete assigned workplace inspections using established checklists, including first aid stations, AEDs, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and electrical panel clearances. Report identified concerns to the HSE Coordinator.
- HSE Documentation: Assist with filing, organizing, updating, and maintaining HSE forms, inspection records, training records, incident documentation, and program binders.
- Corrective Action Follow-Up: Assist with tracking outstanding inspection items and corrective actions and provide updates to the HSE Coordinator.
- Incident Administration: Organize incident documentation, maintain investigation binders, and assist with basic incident record keeping as directed.
- Forms & Supplies: Monitor HSE forms and supplies throughout the facility and replenish or request additional materials when required.
- Employee Engagement: Assist with Safety Bingo, Passport Program activities, safety communications, recognition activities, and other employee engagement programs.
- Training Support: Assist with preparing training materials, attendance records, handouts, and other administrative components of employee training.
- Continuous Improvement Support: Assist with formatting, updating, and organizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), forms, work instructions,
and continuous improvement materials as directed.
- Contractor & Service Support: Assist with routine coordination and follow-up involving service providers such as Cintas and other approved contractors.
- General HSE Support: Provide administrative and operational assistance to the HSE Coordinator and complete other assigned HSE tasks and projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education or coursework related to Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, business administration, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required.
- Previous health and safety or manufacturing experience is considered an asset but is not required.
- Training will be provided for assigned responsibilities.

- Ability to maintain organized records and documentation.
- Ability to work independently on assigned routine tasks.
- Willingness to ask questions and seek direction when required.
- Ability to work respectfully with employees from different departments and backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling workplace information.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn and develop additional HSE knowledge and skills.
- Dependability, accountability, and consistent attendance.
Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Ability to successfully complete required company orientation and training.
- Willingness to complete HSE-related training as required for the position.
- First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Joint Health & Safety Committee training, or other safety-related training is considered an asset but is not required.
Physical Requirements The position involves a combination of office work and routine activities throughout the manufacturing facility. The employee must be able to:
- Walk and stand throughout the facility to complete inspections and assigned tasks.
- Bend and kneel occasionally when completing inspections or checking equipment.
- Perform occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling associated with normal workplace supplies and materials.
- Work safely in manufacturing areas while following required PPE, hygiene, and food safety requirements.
Working Conditions
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., 8-hour afternoon shift.
- Combination of office and manufacturing-floor activities.
- Manufacturing areas may be noisy, dusty, wet, humid, cold, or occasionally slippery.
- May encounter cleaning chemicals and disinfectants used within the facility. Required PPE and training will be provided.
- Must comply with all plant safety, hygiene, GMP, and food safety requirements.
Development Opportunity The Junior HSE Champion is intended to be a developmental position. The employee will initially focus on routine HSE administration, inspections, documentation, and employee engagement activities. As knowledge, training, experience, and demonstrated competency increase, the employee may be provided opportunities to assist with additional HSE and continuous improvement activities under the direction of the HSE Coordinator.
