Position Overview

Laurus is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Karate Instructor to lead a weekly after-school karate program for children from Kindergarten to Grade 4 at Kells Academy in NDG.

The instructor will introduce students to the fundamentals of karate in a safe, positive, age-appropriate, and fun environment. The program should help children develop coordination, confidence, focus, discipline, and respect while keeping them active and engaged.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and lead a structured one-hour karate class each week.
- Teach age-appropriate karate fundamentals, including basic stances, movements, techniques, and coordination exercises.
- Adapt activities to accommodate children of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.




- Incorporate games and engaging activities to keep younger participants motivated and involved.
- Promote values such as respect, self-control, perseverance, confidence, and teamwork.
- Maintain a protected and supportive environment throughout each session.
- Manage the group effectively and encourage positive participation.
- Ensure activities and techniques are appropriate for an elementary-school after-school setting.

Qualifications

- Experience practicing and/or teaching karate or another relevant martial art.
- Experience working with children, particularly elementary-school-aged children.
- Strong communication and group-management skills.
- Energetic, patient, dependable, and comfortable working with younger children.
- Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
- Teaching, coaching, or martial arts instructor certification is considered an asset.
