Our client in the hospitality, food, and catering industry is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations in a quick-paced restaurant specializing in African and intercontinental cuisine. The ideal candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, and support the kitchen team in delivering high-quality meals and excellent customer experiences.

Responsibilities:
- Assist cooks and kitchen staff with food preparation and basic cooking tasks.
- Wash, peel, cut, and prepare ingredients for a variety of African and intercontinental dishes.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces, equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen tools promptly and efficiently.
- Receive and properly store food supplies and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Health and Safety and food handling standards.
- Assist with waste disposal and maintaining an organized kitchen environment.
- Support catering events and busy service periods as needed.
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of previous kitchen or food service experience is an asset but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain high cleanliness standards.
- Food Safety or Safe Food Handling Certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain).
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: $15 per hour
- Casual position with expected hours of 30–40 hours per week
