K’ómoks First Nation is seeking an experienced and collaborative Land Use Planner to help guide the responsible planning, stewardship, and development of K’ómoks lands, including Reserve Lands, Fee Simple Lands, and Treaty Settlement Lands.

About the Role

As the Nation’s primary technical planning resource, you’ll review development proposals, provide sound planning advice, support land use and governance initiatives, and work with community, leadership, consultants, and government partners. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your planning expertise to a growing Nation and help shape how K’ómoks lands are planned and stewarded for generations to comes

What You’ll Do

- Support the implementation and ongoing development of the K’ómoks Land Use Plan, land governance frameworks, and Treaty-related initiatives
- Review development proposals, permits, leases, subdivisions, and other land use applications
- Conduct site suitability, land capability, development impact, and compatibility analyses
- Prepare planning reports, maps, technical studies, briefing notes, and recommendations for management and Council
- Assess environmental, cultural, infrastructure, servicing, and community considerations associated with proposed development
- Coordinate technical reviews with K’ómoks departments, consultants, governments, agencies, and other partners
- Develop and maintain planning policies, procedures, guidelines, development standards, and administrative tools




- Research legislative changes and planning best practices and recommend improvements to K’ómoks planning processes
- Facilitate community engagement and incorporate community values and Indigenous Knowledge into planning recommendations
- Coordinate planning projects, including consultants, schedules, budgets, funding applications, and deliverables
- Maintain accurate planning records and build strong relationships that support responsible land stewardship and development

What you Bring

- Bachelor’s degree in Community, Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental or Indigenous Planning, Resource Management, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible planning experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Strong knowledge of land use and community planning principles, development review, and policy implementation
- Understanding of Indigenous land governance, First Nations planning, Land Code frameworks, and Treaty implementation
- Ability to interpret land use plans, policies, development standards, legal surveys, cadastral maps, and related planning documents
- Knowledge of environmental planning, cultural heritage protection, sustainability, infrastructure, and community development
- Proficiency with GIS, mapping, spatial analysis, and planning graphics
- Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, report-writing, and presentation skills
- Excellent communication, facilitation, relationship-building, conflict-resolution, and consensus-building abilities
- Ability to respectfully incorporate community values and Indigenous Knowledge into planning processes




- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience working with Indigenous governments or First Nations is highly preferred
- Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and/or Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) is preferred

- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Must be willing to complete a criminal record check if required
