Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 321-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Director of Organizational Development is currently seeking a Learning & Instructional Design Consultant. This position will be responsible for providing hospital-wide leadership for the design, development, and implementation of Waypoint's future-state learning strategy and organizational learning model. This role will lead the transformation of how learning, training, and capability development are designed, delivered, experienced, and sustained across the organization.
Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the development and implementation of Waypoint's future-state learning strategy and organization-wide learning model aligned with organizational priorities, workforce capabilities, patient safety, and performance outcomes.
- Conduct environmental scans, research, stakeholder consultations, and best-practice reviews to identify opportunities to modernize learning, training, and workforce capability development.
- Develop and establish an enterprise learning framework and future learning architecture, including governance structures, delivery methodologies, technology approaches, measurement frameworks, and sustainability strategies.
- Serve as the organizational lead and subject matter expert for learning innovation, instructional design, and organizational learning transformation.
- Partner with leaders, educators, subject matter experts,
and external partners to create alignment and commitment to the future-state learning vision and capability-building strategies.
- Design and implement creative learning approaches, including experiential learning, simulation, gamification, microlearning, workflow-integrated learning, social learning, and other learner-centered experiences.
- Translate complex information into practical, accessible, and engaging learning experiences that support diverse learning needs, roles, and experience levels.
- Develop and apply assessment, evaluation, and measurement approaches to assess learning effectiveness, workforce capability development, organizational impact, and return on investment.
- Lead organizational adoption of new learning approaches by developing implementation roadmaps, supporting change management strategies, and establishing standards that promote consistency, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Build internal organizational capability by coaching and advising leaders, educators, and learning partners in innovative learning and instructional design methodologies to support long-term sustainability and continuous evolution of the learning model.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Adult Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of demonstrated experience leading learning, organizational development, workforce development, change management, or learning transformation initiatives within complex organizations.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale organizational change and developing learning strategies, governance structures, learning frameworks, and enterprise-wide capability-building programs.
- Strong knowledge of organizational development, change management, adult learning theory,
instructional design methodologies, and learning innovation.
- Experience implementing innovative learning approaches, including gamification, workflow-integrated learning, microlearning, simulation, digital learning, experiential learning, and other learner-centered methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to translate organizational strategy, research, and complex information into practical learning strategies, frameworks, and engaging learning experiences.
- Advanced consulting, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, partnership-building, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Strong project and program leadership skills, including the ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and drive implementation and execution.
- Experience evaluating organizational outcomes and using data, performance measures, and evaluation frameworks to support continuous improvement and workforce capability development.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, along with proficiency in learning management systems, digital learning technologies, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude.
- Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation).
- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
