Location: Head Office, EtobicokeReports To: Shop ManagerPay Scale: $42.00 - $53.00 per hour depending on experienceThis position is for 2 existing vacancies.Job DutiesRepair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and other necessary mechanical componentsInspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered unitsAdhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliancesCommunicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reportingDiagnose defects in heavy duty equipmentPerform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and on road calls when requiredOperate automotive servicing equipmentInstallation of current and added-on equipmentElectrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnosticsRepair cooling and lubrication systemsInstall and align engines and machineryRepair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains and final drivesTest repaired equipment for proper performanceClean, lubricate and perform other maintenance workMaintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniquesOther mechanical repair work as requiredMentor apprentice mechanicsRequirements310T or 421 licenseCompletion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical trainingAppropriate credentials and certifications5-10 years experience as a Heavy Equipment MechanicValid driver’s licenseMathematics,
oral and written communication skills at the trade journeyman levelAbility to work independently in a busy environmentExperience with routine maintenance operationsWorking knowledge of related maintenance and repair practicesWorking knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, motors, and air brake systemsEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work well under pressureAbility to deal with multiple tasks and prioritize work effectivelyStrong attention to detailProfessional and diplomatic communication with all personnelTravel RequirementsTo off‑site locations will be required.Work ConditionsThis position requires both day, night shifts, weekends and overtime during the winter months.Physical EnvironmentExposure to disagreeable elements such as inclement weather.Physical DemandsHigh. Manual activities including bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally; physical hazards associated with the trade.Mental EffortModerate intensity.
