The Phlebotomist / Health Care Assistant is responsible for performing venipuncture and specimen collection while assisting physicians and nurses with clinical and administrative duties. The role ensures high-quality patient care, accurate specimen handling, and compliance with clinic policies and healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities Phlebotomy Duties
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection
Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
Ensure proper storage and transportation of samples
Maintain accurate documentation in EMR
Follow infection control and safety protocols
Clinical Support
Measure and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, weight)
Prepare patients for examination
Assist physicians during procedures
Clean and sterilize examination rooms
Maintain medical supplies and equipment
Administrative Support
Update patient charts in EMR
Book appointments as required
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (preferred)
Medical Office Assistant or Health Care Assistant certification (asset)
Experience in a family practice or walk-in clinic setting (preferred)
Robust knowledge of infection control procedures
Excellent communication and patient care skills
Proficiency with EMR systems
