Sterling Industries is expanding our in-house machining capabilities and is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Foreman / Lead Machinist to help us build and lead the department.
This is not a desk-only Foreman position.
We are looking for someone who still enjoys running a lathe and mill, solving difficult machining problems and producing quality work — but who also has the leadership ability to help develop people, organize workflow and establish the systems required to build a strong machine shop.
Sterling Industries is an industrial mechanical and electrical service company specializing in rotating equipment, pumps, generators, motors, industrial maintenance and field service.
Our Machine Shop will support both our internal Service/Repair operations and external customer machining requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
You will spend significant time hands-on machining while also helping manage the department.
Typical work may include
- Pump shafts
- Motor and equipment shafts
- Sleeves
- Bushings
- Bearing fits
- Seal areas
- Wear components
- Hubs
- Couplings
- Keyways
- Repair machining
- Industrial equipment components
- One-off customer repairs
You will:
- Operate manual lathes and milling machines.
- Set up and machine components independently.
- Inspect and measure incoming components.
- Determine repair methods.
- Work from drawings, samples and damaged components.
- Hold accurate tolerances.
- Assist with machining estimates.
- Coordinate daily machine-shop workflow.
- Mentor apprentices and developing machinists.
- Maintain quality standards.
- Develop machining procedures and inspection processes.
- Help determine tooling and future equipment requirements.
- Support Sterling's rotating-equipment repair team.
- Help build the Machine Shop into a scalable business unit.

Strong manual lathe and milling experience is important.
would be highly valuable. CNC experience is an asset but strong manual machining and repair experience is particularly important for this role.

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday-Friday with additional hours as operational requirements dictate
Compensation: Competitive and based on machining and leadership experience
Pay: $27.17-$45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Education:
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
Experience:
