Job Summary The Junior Maintenance Technician supports the Maintenance Department by assisting with routine maintenance, basic repairs, equipment inspections, and general maintenance tasks under the direction of experienced maintenance technicians. This entry-level technical role provides an opportunity to develop hands-on mechanical skills while supporting the reliability and safe operation of industrial food processing equipment, including abrasion peelers, dicers, conveyors, optical sorters, and onion peelers.
The Junior Maintenance
Technician is ideal for individuals with basic mechanical aptitude who are eager to develop their technical expertise in a fast-paced food processing environment while following workplace safety and food safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine preventive maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of equipment as directed by senior technicians.
- Maintain, monitor, and operate equipment within the production waste room and waste management system.
- Check fluid levels, belts, fittings, and basic equipment components under supervision.
- Assist with minor repairs and replacement of worn parts under the direction of Maintenance Technicians or Senior Technicians.
- Assist with resetting or restarting equipment following minor malfunctions and established procedures.
- Gather tools, spare parts, and materials required for scheduled maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining commonly used tools, parts, and maintenance materials.
- Monitor equipment during operation and report unusual noises, vibrations, or performance issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance technician.
- Assist with documenting inspection findings and maintenance activities.
- Follow all workplace safety and food safety requirements, including HACCP procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or non-compliance concerns immediately.
- Assist with facility upkeep and other maintenance duties as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; enrollment in or completion of a technical program, such as Mechanical or Industrial Maintenance, is an asset.
- 1–2 years of experience in a maintenance mechanic or maintenance support role; some exposure to mechanical systems is preferred but not mandatory.
- Previous experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to develop hands-on technical skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and learn technical procedures.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools, such as wrenches and screwdrivers.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently when directed and effectively collaborate with maintenance and production teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Eligibility to Work in Canada
- Applicants must be either Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens to be considered for this position.
Work Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and working around industrial equipment.
- Regular exposure to noise, wet conditions, cold or temperature-controlled areas, and organic waste in the waste room.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food processing environment.
- Must be comfortable working around industrial machinery and in refrigerated or temperature-controlled production areas.
Working Hours
- Regular hours are based on the operational and production requirements of the Maintenance Department.
- Schedule may vary based on production requirements and maintenance needs.
- Weekend work may be required based on operational requirements.

Salary
- $20 to $23/hour, based on qualifications and experience.
Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
