Northern Sport Centre

Reporting to the Associate Director of Ancillary Services. The Manager of the Northern Sport Centre (NSC) provides day to day leadership to the following four core business areas: member services, booking services, programming services, and event services.
The Manager is responsible for the development of revenue generating activities as well as the leadership of unionized staff, supervising external contractors, and reporting to Northern Sport Centre Limited (NSCL) board of directors. In addition, this position fosters relationships with external interest holders, such as local sport organizations, NSC members, and UNBC to develop new revenue streams that align with the UNBC strategic plan.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing strategic and operational plans to support departmental success;
- Leading program development, service delivery, and operational initiatives aligned with organizational objectives;
- Coordinating staff, equipment, facilities, and resources to support the successful delivery of events, programs, and activities;
- Managing full-cycle human resources activities, including recruitment, performance management, coaching, and staff development;
- Fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture;
- Building and maintaining effective partnerships with internal and external interest holders;
- Identifying and developing new revenue-generating opportunities;
- Assisting with budget planning while developing and monitoring budget controls to ensure financial sustainability;
- Overseeing facility operations, maintenance programs, membership services, and event management initiatives;
- Implementing accountability, risk management, and safety measures for operational activities and projects;
- Monitoring performance metrics and driving continuous improvement and service excellence initiatives;
- Ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable agreements; and
- Communicating operational progress, outcomes, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Business, Recreation, Facility Management, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of experience coordinating programs, events, or operations in a multi-use facility, including five years in a supervisory or leadership role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with budget administration, facility operations,
event coordination, and staff supervision is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a commitment to customer service, safety, and teamwork are essential.
Salary The starting salary will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, skills, and experience. The annual salary range for this position is $84,107.00 to $93,400.00.

Normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Some flexibility in work schedule is expected in order to meet on-call requirements and oversee staff and activities/events that take place outside of traditional hours.
