MARINE DETAILER
Reports To: Lead Marine Detailer
Location: Delta Marine Services Ltd.
POSITION SUMMARY The Marine Detailer is responsible for the professional cleaning, detailing, and presentation of customer vessels while in the care of Delta Marine Services.
This is a physically active, primarily outdoor position. Work is performed year-round in a marine environment and in varying weather conditions.
The position performs routine and detailed exterior and interior vessel cleaning, including washing, compounding, waxing, buffing, and polishing. A key responsibility is ensuring vessels are clean, well presented, and customer-ready prior to pickup or delivery.
The Marine Detailer is expected to take pride in the quality of their work and treat every customer vessel and its contents with care and respect.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Vessel Cleaning & Detailing
- Wash and clean vessel exteriors, including hulls, decks, windows, rails, swim platforms, and other exterior surfaces.
- Wash vessels and appropriate exterior surfaces using safe techniques and suitable equipment.
- Clean and detail vessel interiors, including cabins, heads, galleys, floors, windows, upholstery, and other interior surfaces.
- Vacuum, mop, wipe down, sanitize, and polish areas as required.
- Remove salt, dirt, grime, mildew, water spots, and other buildup using appropriate marine cleaning products and techniques.
- Compound, wax, buff, and polish vessel surfaces as required.
- Polish stainless steel, glass, fixtures, and other surfaces.
- Perform spot cleaning and touch-ups as required.
- Assist with laundry and vessel linens when required.
Customer-Ready Vessel Preparation
- Complete final cleaning and detailing of vessels prior to customer pickup or delivery.
- Ensure customer-facing areas are clean, tidy, and professionally presented.
- Perform a final visual check of completed work and address any missed areas before advising that the vessel is ready.
- Immediately report any damage, stains, leaks, missing items, or other concerns noticed while cleaning.
- Take particular care around customer belongings, electronics, finishes, upholstery, canvas, and other sensitive equipment.
Equipment & Supplies
- Safely use and maintain pressure washers, polishers, buffers, vacuums,
cleaning equipment, and other tools required for the position.
- Keep cleaning supplies, equipment, and designated storage areas clean and organized.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and advise the appropriate supervisor when products or materials need to be reordered.
- Ensure appropriate products and cleaning methods are used for different marine surfaces and finishes.
- Properly store and dispose of cleaning products and waste in accordance with company and environmental requirements.
Safety & General Responsibilities
- Follow all Delta Marine health and safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work safely aboard vessels and around docks, ladders, scaffolding, boarding equipment, and other elevated or uneven work areas.
- Safely operate pressure washers, polishers, buffers, and other equipment.
- Follow WHMIS requirements and manufacturer instructions when using cleaning products and chemicals.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas and promptly address or report hazards.
- Work cooperatively with other cleaners, technicians, yard staff, service staff, and management.
- Complete assigned work efficiently and advise the appropriate supervisor when work has been completed.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably required.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Previous marine detailing, boat cleaning, automotive detailing, or professional cleaning experience is an asset.
- Experience with pressure washing, compounding, waxing, buffing, and polishing is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to manage assigned work effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors, aboard vessels, on docks, and around water.
- Ability to safely use cleaning products, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Demonstrated care and respect when working with customer property.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & OUTDOOR WORKING CONDITIONS This position is primarily performed outdoors in a working marina and boatyard environment throughout the year.
Employees must be prepared to work in changing weather conditions, which may include rain, wind, cold, heat, direct sunlight, and damp or wet conditions.
The position requires
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and stretching.
- Climbing on and off vessels and working from docks, ladders, scaffolding, and boarding equipment.
- Working at heights when required to access areas of vessels.
- Working on uneven, wet, or potentially slippery surfaces.
- Working in and around an active boatyard with moving vessels, vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Regular use of hands and arms for washing, scrubbing, compounding, waxing, buffing, and polishing.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and moving cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Working around water, cleaning products, chemicals, noise, dust, and other conditions typical of an active marine service facility.
Employees are expected to dress appropriately for the weather and wear all required PPE. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The Boat Cleaner / Marine Detailer is expected to consistently produce clean, professionally presented vessels; complete assigned work thoroughly and within reasonable time expectations; protect customer property; follow established safety procedures; maintain equipment and work areas; communicate concerns promptly; and work cooperatively with the Delta Marine team.
The overall standard is simple: when a customer receives their vessel, it should reflect the quality and professionalism expected from Delta Marine Services Ltd.
Pay: $18.25-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
