Our client is a privately held holding company with an active portfolio of e-commerce and CPG brands operating across North America — they build and acquire, and the finance function is genuinely at the center of how they make decisions. This isn't a caretaker role inside a large corporate structure. It's a seat at the table in a lean, high-conviction team where the Controller owns the full function and works directly alongside ownership.

Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling forecasts and reforecasts as actuals evolve
Prepare and deliver budget-to-actual variance analysis with explicit, actionable commentary for senior leadership
Partner with brand and operations teams to evaluate the ROI of key initiatives — recent content creator partnerships, channel investments, product launches — and provide profitability analysis that informs where we lean in and where we pull back
Build and maintain portfolio-level reporting that gives leadership a consolidated view of financial performance across all brands
M&A; Support
Maintain rolling normalized EBITDA models for active M&A; mandates, currently including two acquisitions at different stages of the pipeline
Support due diligence processes including financial data room preparation, request list management, and quality of earnings analysis
Support the evaluation and potential sale of portfolio businesses, including preparation of normalized financials and vendor-side due diligence materials

Lead the implementation, and ongoing management of the company's ERP system
Oversee US GAAP compliant financial reporting across the portfolio as applicable by entity
Manage external relationships including auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and legal counsel
Own all tax compliance and filings across Canadian and US jurisdictions, coordinating with external advisors as needed
Qualifications

Hands-on ERP implementation or build-out experience strongly preferred
Explicit, confident communicator who can translate financial complexity into language that drives decisions
Someone who takes ownership, moves without being pushed, and cares about the outcome as much as the process
