Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineering Technologist with strong experience in mechanical systems and manufacturing environments. This role focuses on designing molds, tooling, and equipment for rubber compression molding processes, while also supporting troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts across the facility.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop molds, tooling, machinery, and mechanical assemblies for rubber compression molded products
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and Fusion CAD.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to molds, hydraulic presses, and automated equipment
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve product designs and manufacturing efficiency
- Analyze and optimize existing equipment for performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness
- Support prototype development, testing, and iterative design improvements
- Ensure designs meet applicable standards,
tolerances, and safety requirements
- Assist with process improvements across manufacturing operations
- Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (CET), Mechanical Design, or a related field is an asset
- Min. 3 years of mechanical design experience
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in industrial settings
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Robust attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with automation systems (PLCs, sensors, conveyors, augers and valves)
- Experience with lab testing (tensile strength, compression, stress analysis)
- Knowledge of rubber, plastic and resins is considered an asset
