Modern Crane – Fleet ManagerPosition Summary

Modern Crane is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to lead the maintenance, repair, inspection, certification, and reliability of our mobile crane and heavy-equipment fleet.

This is a senior, hands-on maintenance leadership position requiring significant mobile crane experience and robust technical knowledge. The successful candidate will oversee maintenance planning, repairs, inspections, technicians, parts, vendors, equipment downtime, and return-to-service activities.

This is not a general fleet administration role. Significant mobile crane maintenance and repair experience is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the day-to-day maintenance and reliability of Modern Crane’s mobile crane and heavy-equipment fleet.
- Establish repair priorities based on safety, equipment condition, operational requirements, customer commitments, and availability.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, inspections, breakdowns, and emergency repairs.
- Review operator and technician equipment reports and ensure deficiencies are investigated, repaired, documented, and closed.
- Monitor equipment downtime and drive repairs through to completion.
- Provide technical direction on complex crane troubleshooting and major repairs.
- Coordinate technicians, apprentices, OEM representatives, dealers, vendors, and specialized repair facilities.
- Coordinate annual inspections, certifications, structural inspections, and required corrective repairs.
- Ensure maintenance is completed in accordance with OEM requirements, company standards, and applicable safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, repair histories, certifications, and maintenance documentation.
- Coordinate parts and critical component requirements.
- Identify recurring failures and implement corrective and preventative solutions.
- Ensure equipment is properly tested and verified before returning to service.
- Assist with hydraulic, electrical, electronic, mechanical troubleshooting.
- Coordinate major component repairs, rebuilds, and replacements.




- Work directly with crane manufacturers and technical-support representatives when required.
- Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel while establishing high standards for safety, workmanship, productivity, and accountability.
- Provide management with recommendations regarding major repairs, equipment condition, lifecycle planning, and repair-versus-replace decisions.

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Significant hands-on mobile crane maintenance, diagnostic, and repair experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of mobile crane systems and operating principles.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
- Experience with boom, telescoping, outrigger, stabilization, and crane safety systems.
- Familiarity with LMI/RCI systems, electronic controls, diagnostic systems, and CAN-bus networks.
- Strong knowledge of diesel-powered heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, technical manuals, and OEM service information.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex equipment issues and develop effective repair strategies.
- Experience coordinating technicians, vendors, repairs, and competing operational priorities.
- Experience working with crane manufacturers, dealers, and specialized repair facilities.
- Previous experience in crane maintenance leadership, service management, shop supervision, lead technician, or senior heavy-equipment maintenance.
- Strong organizational, planning, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize repairs and effectively manage equipment downtime.
- Robust computer skills and experience with maintenance, work-order, parts, or diagnostic systems.
- Strong commitment to safety, preventative maintenance, reliability, and quality workmanship.





Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician certification is an asset but not mandatory for candidates with substantial mobile crane technical and maintenance experience. Mobile Crane Experience – Mandatory

This position is specifically for an individual with substantial mobile crane experience.

Applicants whose experience is primarily limited to automotive repair, highway tractors, trailers, general fleet administration, or conventional truck maintenance without meaningful mobile crane experience will not be considered.

Candidates should clearly identify experience with:

- Mobile crane manufacturers and models
- Crane maintenance and repair
- Hydraulic boom and telescoping systems
- Outriggers and stabilization systems
- Hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, and motors
- Crane electrical and electronic systems
- LMI/RCI and computerized control systems
- CAN-bus systems
- Crane inspections and certifications
- Structural inspection and repair
- Major crane troubleshooting and repairs
- OEM technical support and service procedures

The Ideal Candidate We are looking for a technically strong and experienced crane professional who can combine hands-on technical knowledge with effective maintenance leadership.

The successful candidate will be able to assess a crane, understand the problem, challenge a diagnosis when necessary, establish a repair plan, coordinate the required resources, and ensure the equipment is safely and properly returned to service.
