The Nurse Manager reports to the Director of Care and is a supervisory, management (non-bargaining unit) position that provides on-site clinical leadership to registered staff and direct care team members to support safe, resident-directed care. In collaboration with the Director of Care and the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) team, the Nurse Manager supports the implementation of evidence-based care practices, monitors care quality and service outcomes, and helps ensure day-to-day operations align with Ontario long-term care legislative and regulatory requirements. Where assigned, the Nurse Manager may act as the Director of Care’s delegate to support continuity of nursing leadership during the Director of Care’s absence.
Wage Rate: The starting wage rate is $45.61/hour. (Must be able to commit to 22.5 hours biweekly on weekends - 7a to 7p)

Responsibilities:
- This is a management supervisory role. Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and oversight to assigned team members to achieve safe care and performance expectations.
- Provide on-site leadership to registered staff and direct care teams to deliver safe, high-quality, resident-directed/person-centered care aligned with residents’ goals, preferences, dignity, and rights.
- Support care planning, clinical decision-making, and timely escalation of changes in condition; serve as a role model in professional practice and communication.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Medical Director, attending physicians, and Nurse Practitioner to support timely clinical decision-making, order implementation, and follow-up for changes in resident condition.
- Support a safe, welcoming resident move-in experience by coordinating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure clinical readiness, timely assessments, and clear communication with residents and families.
- Ensure completion and follow-up of the move-in checklist, including required documentation, initial 24 hour care planning, risk assessments, and any immediate equipment/safety needs.
- Monitor the first-days transition, address concerns promptly, and ensure care routines align with resident preferences and goals.
- Lead and support interdisciplinary collaboration and assist with resolving resident/family concerns using respectful, solution-focused approaches.
- Support day-to-day compliance with Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and O. Reg. 246/22 through coaching, rounding, documentation oversight, and continuous monitoring.
- Maintain “inspection-ready” practices: ensure evidence, records, and follow-up actions are organized, current, and accessible for Ministry inspections and audits.
- Complete and/or coordinate mandatory reports and amendments through the Critical Incident System (CIS), including documentation of actions taken and planned follow-up as required.
- Lead or support investigations (as assigned), ensuring corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Identify, assess, and escalate clinical and operational risks (resident safety, staffing, environment, infection risks) and implement immediate mitigation strategies to prevent harm.
- Lead timely follow-up for risk events (e.g., falls, medication incidents, skin/wound concerns, responsive behaviours, elopement risk), ensuring documentation is complete and care plans are updated.
- Conduct or support incident investigations and root-cause analysis; develop corrective and preventive actions, assign accountabilities, and monitor effectiveness through CQI.
- Monitor and trend risk indicators (e.g., falls, pressure injuries, medication errors, infections, responsive behaviours, critical incidents) and report insights to Leadership/Quality committees with recommended actions.
- Promote and role-model professional nursing practice consistent with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards,
including the Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice; coach staff to practice within their competence, authority, and role expectations.
- Reinforce documentation expectations by monitoring the quality and timeliness of clinical documentation and coaching staff on transparent, accurate documentation practices.
- Support safe medication practices by ensuring processes and staff practice align with CNO’s Medication practice standard and internal policies (including escalation when issues are identified).
- Provide appropriate oversight of care delivered by unregulated care providers (UCPs) by ensuring role clarity, safe supervision,
- Support implementation and monitoring of key clinical programs and Ministry-directed requirements (e.g., documentation standards, care processes, reporting expectations) and provide clear direction to staff on practice expectations.
- In partnership with the CQI/Quality team, develop, track, and evaluate quality and risk indicators; contribute to annual quality planning and reporting (including CQI initiative reporting/QIP).
- Support the Home’s accreditation and quality framework by maintaining “survey-ready” practices, documentation, and evidence of implementation.
- Actively participate in the Home’s IPAC program by reinforcing routine practices (hand hygiene/PPE), supporting audit follow-through, and implementing additional precautions as required.
- Support outbreak preparedness/response activities as assigned (communications, staffing impacts, practice reinforcement) in alignment with the Home’s IPAC program and public health direction.
- Participate in recruitment and hiring (screening, interviewing, selection recommendations, onboarding support) in accordance with organizational HR policies and employment legislation.
- Conduct performance check-ins and performance appraisals as assigned; develop goals and learning plans and support competency development.
- Address performance and conduct concerns through coaching and corrective action, including progressive discipline up to and including termination, in consultation with the Director of Care/ED, consistent with policy and legislation.
- Provide leadership and support for interRAI processes and restorative nursing practices; support education, documentation quality, and timely completion of assessments.
- Assist with policy/procedure development and updates consistent with evidence-based practice and applicable standards.
- Promote and monitor compliance with Occupational Health & Safety practices; identify hazards, support incident follow-up, and reinforce safe work practices and safe staffing workflows.
- Provide management coverage and act as the Director of Care’s delegate to support continuity of nursing leadership during the Director of Care’s absence, as assigned.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with external resources (e.g., Public Health, hospitals, vendors/suppliers, community agencies, educators/trainers) to support resident care, staff education, and operational readiness.
- Support appropriate staffing to meet resident care needs by monitoring coverage, acuity, and unit activity; escalate staffing risks promptly.
- Apply and reinforce the Home’s scheduling policies and procedures, including rules related to shift assignment, replacement/coverage, overtime, and call-ins (as applicable).
- Participate in the Home’s fire safety and emergency preparedness program, including supporting drills, ensuring staff understand roles (Code Red and other emergency codes), and reinforcing safe, calm responses during emergencies.
- Ensure AI or automated tools are used only in accordance with organizational policy and applicable privacy requirements and never as a substitute for professional nursing judgment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and protect personal health information in accordance with PHIPA and organizational privacy policies.
- Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.
Qualifications: The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) (or eligible to practice in Ontario).
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice and the principles of resident-centred care in long-term care.
- Working knowledge of Ontario long-term care legislation/regulation and the operational expectations of the Director of Nursing and Personal Care function.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to support staffing, scheduling oversight, coaching, and day-to-day clinical operations.
- Ability to act in place of the Director of Care (DOC) as assigned (e.g., during absences, vacations, after-hours escalation).
- Leads teams using a person-centred leadership style, coaching staff to deliver care that respects resident rights, preferences, and lived experience.
- Proficient with computers and clinical documentation systems; comfortable producing reports and supporting quality improvement initiatives.
- Minimum 1–3 years of leadership/supervisory experience in a long-term care or comparable healthcare setting (asset).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
- Gerontology certificate program or equivalent an asset,
- Knowledge of interRAI and clinical documentation standards; AIS certification is an asset (or commitment to complete within 12 months of hire).
- Experience with policy/program development, audits, and continuous quality improvement.
- To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction,
- To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk,
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
- As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements
- Two supervisory references required
