Job Summary The Peel District School Board is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) to join our Special Education department. Reporting to the supervising Occupational Therapist Manager, the successful candidate will play a critical role in enhancing the management of Specialized Equipment Allocation (SEA), including sensory, mobility, and technology-related equipment. This position will ensure that essential learning tools are maintained, distributed, and clinically adapted to support individual student access, safety, and success.
The role is prioritizing holistic, student-centered support while mitigating attitudinal and physical barriers that may impact student participation.

Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Coordination & Inventory: Organize year-round equipment transfers and loan inventory, ensuring accurate and timely movement between schools and vendors. Maintain the SEAit cloud-based asset management system by documenting equipment and verifying safety and functionality. Facilitate the immediate drop-off of equipment to school sites to address urgent student needs and ensure no delays in school entry.
- Maintenance & Technical Support: Inspect the safety of equipment prior to loan or use, performing minor repairs and identify equipment needing professional servicing. Support the comprehensive cleaning and sanitization of specialized equipment and maintain organized storage areas to ensure quality standards are met. Assist school administrators with problem-solving when school-based lifting equipment is tagged for repair.
- Safety & Training: Under discretion of the OTs, develop specialized resources and deliver training to staff and students on safe equipment use, Alternative Learning Environments (ALE), and Back Care practices.
- Clinical Support & Training: At the request of the OTs, support with identifying equipment best suited to student needs.
Provide follow-up visits to train school staff in routine physical management techniques and the safe use of loaned equipment. Provide short-term modeling for complex student needs as assigned and supervised by the OT. Assist students in developing self-care and life-skills within Learning Hubs under the discretion of the OTs.
- Resource Development and Creation: Prepare materials and resources, such as photographs, videos, and visuals, to demonstrate appropriate positioning and outline therapy recommendations for school or work settings. Prepare therapeutic materials, including ALE packages, equipment information pages, social stories, and visual schedules to support functional student outcomes.
- Professional & Collaborative Practice: Work as an integrated member of the interprofessional team, communicating with teachers, clinicians and therapists regarding equipment needs and accessibility requirements for school programming. Demonstrate accountability for professional practice standards in accordance with established Board policies and procedures.
- Accessibility & Community Integration: Visit community locations to determine physical barriers and evaluate accessibility prior to student use, supporting schools in planning outings for students with mobility devices. Assist with determining accessibility needs for school trips, arts camps, and work placements in collaboration with the OT.
- Administration & Collaboration: Perform therapy-related administrative duties, including tracking consumable supplies and maintaining professional resources on SharePoint. Maintain clear, accurate, and timely records of equipment allocation and student interventions following provincial, regulatory, and board standards.

Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized two-year Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) college diploma program.
- Minimum of six months to one year of related experience, ideally in an educational or pediatric clinical setting preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of specialized equipment for students and knowledge of Ministry of Education SEA Directives.
- Proficiency in asset management databases and standard board-approved software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, TEAMS, Google Apps for Education).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for report writing, documentation, and delivering presentations or training.
- Physical ability to handle, move, and clean large specialized equipment (e.g., standers, change tables, wheelchairs).
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel between various school locations.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity, anti-oppression, and anti-racism in a diverse school community.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to coordinate complex assessments and equipment logistics
Additional Skills & Assets This is a 12-month permanent position renewable based on satisfactory performance and continued Ministry funding. The role is essential for supporting equipment cleaning, repairs and transfers throughout the entire calendar year, including the summer transition period.
