We are seeking a reliable and experienced Part-Time Cook to join our Dietary Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals for our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and infection prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals and food items for our residents in accordance with established menus and dietary requirements.
- Ensure proper food handling, preparation, storage, and sanitation techniques are followed at all times.
- Complete daily temperature audits for refrigerators, freezers and food and accurately record findings on the required daily audit forms.
- Follow all applicable regulations, as well as established Dietary Department policies and procedures.
- Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation and departmental safe job procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and food preparation area.
- Work respectfully and professionally in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
- Communicate effectively with members of the Dietary and care teams regarding residents' dietary needs or concerns.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Food Handler's Certificate — mandatory.
- Previous experience working in a retirement home, long-term care, or senior living environment — an asset.
- Certificate or diploma from a recognized cooking school — an asset.
- Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including Criminal Background Check, issued within the past six months, or be willing to obtain one — mandatory.
- Must provide proof of a two-step tuberculosis (TB) test — mandatory.
- Must complete required online training prior to in-person training.
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated respect, patience, and professionalism when working with seniors.
