Sterling Rivers

Toronto

Sterling Rivers is hiring a People & Workplace Operations Generalist to own the full employee experience, from the first interview through onboarding and day-to-day support, while also serving as the operational backbone of our office and workplace systems. This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who wants genuine ownership over how our people processes are built, not just how they're executed day to day. You'll be the person employees turn to for real answers, and the person leadership trusts to bring structure and consistency to our team.

About the role

This role sits at the intersection of HR, workplace operations, and light IT coordination.

No two days look the same: one day you might be screening candidates and drafting an offer letter, the next you're updating a policy to reflect new legislation, and the next you're coordinating a company event or making sure the office has what it needs to run smoothly. We're looking for someone who finds that variety energizing rather than distracting, and who's excited to bring more structure and process to how our People Operations function runs.

What you'll do

Recruitment & Onboarding

- Own full-cycle recruitment, from writing and posting job descriptions to screening resumes, conducting pre-screens and initial interviews, coordinating the interview process, and drafting employment contracts.
- Design and deliver an onboarding experience that reflects our culture and sets recent hires up to succeed from day one, including coordinating group benefits enrollment with Payroll.
- Bring recommendations to senior management on how to improve our recruitment process and where hiring efforts should be focused.
- Keep our job postings fresh and visible across company channels and job boards.

Employee Experience & Development

- Be the first point of contact for employee questions about policies, pay, and benefits.

- Support performance management processes and annual review cycles, and help plan compensation adjustments.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date personnel records and HR databases.

Policy & Compliance

- Develop and update company policy in step with current employment legislation, working closely with relevant stakeholders.
- Keep health & safety practices aligned with legislative requirements.
- Build out the structure, documentation, and processes that will let our People Operations function scale with the company.

Workplace & Technology Operations

- Keep the office running: supplies, kitchen stock, vendor coordination, and general administrative support.
- Manage our technology inventory and help keep IT projects and tasks on track.
- Plan and coordinate company-wide events, and handle travel logistics for company-related events and trips.
- Take on the ad hoc tasks that come with keeping the team supported.

What you bring

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; a post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management is preferred.
- 3 years of HR generalist experience, ideally at a smaller company without a large HR team behind you.
- Solid working knowledge of Ontario employment law and comfort navigating compliance matters independently.
- Demonstrated experience owning full-cycle recruitment from posting to offer.
- A builder's mindset, comfortable creating process and structure where none exists yet.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee matters.

- Genuine willingness to work across the full spectrum of the role, from policy design to ordering office supplies.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

- CHRP/CHRL designation, or working toward one.
- Familiarity with AI tools and HR software systems such as CollageHR and Payworks.

Why join Sterling Rivers

- A varied, hands-on role rather than a narrow lane, ideal if you like solving different kinds of problems.
- Real ownership over how our People Operations function is built and run.
- A team that relies on you and values the structure you bring.
- Hybrid model, typically in office four days per week.
