We are looking for a Pipe Fabrication Supervisor: assign the work, keep the bays loaded, hold the quality line, and develop the fitters and welders working for them.
This is a hands-on supervisory role for someone who came up through the trade and knows how to organize fabrication.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise a crew of fitters, welders, helpers, and material handlers across the pipe bays, setting daily priorities and holding the schedule.
- Lead the safety effort on the floor: toolbox meetings, FLHAs, rigging and crane lifts, and immediate correction of unsafe conditions.
- Plan and sequence shop loading against spool release dates so the right work is in front of the right hands.
- Interpret isometrics, spool drawings, and P&IDs.;
- Ensure welders are working to qualified procedures under ASME Section IX and that continuity, stamp records, and consumable control are maintained. Coordinate with Quality Control personnel.
- Coordinate with QC on NDE, hold points,
material traceability and heat numbers, PMI, hydro testing, and test package turnover.
- Drive productivity and quality: track diameter inch progress with KMA tracking procedures.
- Mentor apprentices and newer hands and give honest feedback on performance to the Manager.
What You Bring
- Journeyman Steamfitter-Pipefitter or Welder ticket (Red Seal preferred).
- Five or more years in pipe spool fabrication, with at least two years leading a crew as a lead hand, foreman, or supervisor.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 fabrication in an ABSA-certified shop operating under an Alberta Quality Program.
- Confident reading isometrics, spool drawings, weld maps, and material specifications.
- Solid grasp of NDE methods, material traceability, and pressure test requirements.
- A safety-first approach that shows up in daily habits, not just in meetings.
- Transparent communication with your crew, with QC, and with the office staff, including delivering bad news early.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Nice to Have
- CWB Level 1 or 2 Inspector certification, or CSA W178.2 visual inspection training.
- Supervisory training such as Leadership for Safety Excellence, plus CSTS, OSSA, and Standard First Aid.
- Overhead crane and rigging tickets.
- Experience using an ERP or shop floor tracking system for progress.
