This posting will be used to fill auxiliary on call positions working75 hours bi-weekly.

It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions within Yukon EMS.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are The Yukon's Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) team delivers a wide scope of pre-hospital care. We deliver medical interventions, treatments, and quality care in every corner of the Yukon. Leadership, dedication, and partnership guides our work.

Who we are looking for

As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), incumbents will employ professional Primary Care Life Support skills to provide pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment to the Whitehorse population.



The PCP assesses patient condition in order to formulate a treatment plan and to initiate emergency interventions and non-emergency care to provide optimal patient wellbeing. This work is carried out in environments where there is limited medical support.

Essential qualifications

- Completion of a hospital-based or other recognized paramedical education/ program
- Recent experience providing pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment and transportation.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy.
- Patient advocacy
- Ability to work both independently and in a team workplace.
- Conflict management skills
- Experience working with allied agencies (e.g., Police, Fire, Health Care Professionals)

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

valid PCP licence from a paramedic governing body in Canada, TB screening; RCMP check with vulnerable sector check; and class 4 Yukon driver’s license (or equivalent)

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

shift work, including weekends and standby, travel, wearing a uniform. physical effort, hazards, and discomfort as specified within the including exposure to high stress, sensitive situations, verbally and physically aggressive behaviour; working in awkward positions indoors and outdoors in all weather; lifting and transferring patients with assistance. ability to lift to 50 lbs.
