Primary Teacher – Grades K–3

Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation (SXFN) is seeking a caring and dedicated full-time Primary Teacher for Rosie Seymour Elementary/Secondary School in Canoe Creek, British Columbia.

Rosie Seymour is a First Nation-operated school serving approximately 16 students. We follow the BC curriculum and work in partnership with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) to support student learning and success.

Our small school provides an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, families and the community. The successful candidate will teach a combined K–3 class with support and direction from the Principal.

Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging lessons based on the BC curriculum
- Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive classroom
- Assess student learning and communicate progress to families
- Adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
- Work collaboratively with the Principal, Education Assistants, families and community members
- Support cultural, community-based and land-based learning opportunities
- Participate in school activities, career development and staff planning
- Maintain appropriate student records and documentation

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education degree
- Valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
- TQS category or equivalent
- Experience teaching primary students is an asset
- Strong classroom-management,



communication and relationship-building skills
- Interest in working within a small First Nations community

Conditions of Employment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid BC driver’s licence; Class 4 is an asset
- Access to a reliable vehicle in good operating condition with appropriate insurance
- Ability to obtain and maintain a WCB-approved Level 1 First Aid certificate

Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary of $63,735–$116,190, based on TQS category and recognized teaching experience

About the Community Rosie Seymour School is located in Stswecem’c (Canoe Creek), BC, approximately one hour west of Clinton by gravel road. The surrounding territory offers access to fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and the Fraser River, located approximately 10 kilometres from the community.
