Overview

Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women works with partner organizations to tackle critical social problems affecting newcomer and immigrant women. We work to support vulnerable women who experience domestic violence and are looking for ways to build their lives. We provide opportunities to them to engage in their communities as productive citizens. This position offers new services in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury for expansion of ehcw’s current Reduce Abuse program.

Description:

The Program Coordinator is innovative and responsible for the overall coordination of the Reduce Abuse program. This includes working in partnership with partners to ensure the goals, objectives and deliverables are met.

Duties

- Complete intake forms, action plan, emergency plans for clients;
- Support and provide counselling to newcomers, immigrants and refugees facing domestic violence or are at risk;
- Assist in filling government applications relevant to women;
- Develop communication material and promotional strategies;
- Develop culturally sensitive curriculum;
- Create e-flyers & promotional materials;
- Conduct outreach to community, media and social media campaign;
- Form network & awareness campaign;
- Explore new opportunities and develop proposals that benefit community women and girls and their families;
- Receive phone calls from clients;
- Conduct educational workshops;
- Create contents and information about gender violence on ehcw website;
- Encourage women to visit the on-line tool-kit for awareness of violence prevention & the rights of women and girls;
- Develop community partnerships;




- Conduct evaluation of programs and impact on women & girls;
- Host community events;
- Compile statistics and data related to clients and program;
- Coordinate and train volunteers;
- Participate, as required, in agencies and community meetings and implement actions from those meetings;
- Through team work, provide an environment where staff and clients feel comfortable and welcomed;
- Complete data entry on clients for reporting purposes
- Referrals to other services to meet specific needs of clients
- Write reports for submissions;
- Report on daily activities to the Executive Director;
- Perform any other duties as required by the Executive Director

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate/Diploma in social work or a minimum of 3 – 5 years experience working in related field.
- Ability to plan, delegate, facilitate and evaluate training programs.
- Experience in training, conducting workshops and group sessions.
- Experience in establishing contacts with key community leaders and organizations.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with ability to research as well as track and evaluate program results.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities and cultural groups.
- Robust oral and written English skills, knowledge of a second (or more) language and culture is an asset.
- Driver’s License and a car is strongly recommended
