We are seeking a motivated and dependable Public Works Operator 1 to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment and tools to maintain and repair public infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, parks, and other municipal assets. Your proactive approach and mechanical aptitude will ensure the smooth operation of public facilities, contributing to the safety and quality of life within our community.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery such as skid steer, backhoes, and grader to perform construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Use hand tools, power tools and equipment complete infrastructure projects efficiently.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and public assets to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
- Perform landscaping, drainage cleaning, road patching, and other public works activities according to project specifications.
- Assist with the operation of specialized equipment to move materials safely around work sites.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment usage, and safety inspections.
- Follow safety protocols diligently while working with hazardous materials involved in public works projects.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on machinery and tools.
- Experience with rigging techniques for lifting or securing heavy loads safely is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as skid steer, excavators, or grader is considered an asset.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools is an asset.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to public infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings or schematics related to municipal projects.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on safety procedures and teamwork.
Qualifications (must either have or willing to obtain)
- Class I Water distribution
- Class I Wastewater treatment and collection
