Port Pop
Cambridge
Port Pop has been making snacks in Cambridge since 1999. We're a family-owned co-manufacturer — popcorn, extruded puffs and cereal — running SQF-certified, HACCP-based production for national retail brands and specialty food companies across Canada and the US. We're peanut-free, tree-nut-free, and run organic, gluten-free, kosher and halal programs.
We're hiring a QA & Food Safety Coordinator to own the day-to-day program alongside our existing QA lead.
What you'll own
- Daily verification that production is running to spec — in-process checks, CCP monitoring, seal integrity, weights, metal detection, pre-op and GMP walkthroughs
- The quality record: making sure logs are complete and legible, deviations are written up the same day, and nothing ships on an open hold
- Non-conformances and CAPAs from open to closed, with the root cause actually identified — not just the corrective action taken
- Customer complaints and specification issues, including the trace-back and the written response
- Supplier and raw-material documentation: specs, CofAs, allergen statements, letters of guarantee
- Supporting the SQF system — internal audits, environmental monitoring, mock recalls, and getting the site ready for audits and customer visits without a two-week fire drill
- Coaching production supervisors and operators on the checks they own, so quality lives on the floor rather than in the QA office
What you need
- 3+ years in quality or food safety in a food manufacturing plant
- HACCP certification,
and hands-on experience in a GFSI-audited facility (SQF, BRCGS or FSSC)
- Working knowledge of SFCR and CFIA labelling requirements, including nutrition facts tables and allergen declarations
- Comfortable on a running production floor and willing to stop a line when the data says to
- Clear written English — a lot of this job is documentation another person has to be able to follow
Nice to have
- SQF Practitioner designation, or eligibility and interest in taking it on — we'll sponsor the training
- PCQI, internal auditor training, or food science education
- Experience with food manufacturing food safety managment
What we offer
- $60,000 – $78,000, based on experience
- Day shift, Monday to Friday — no rotating shifts
- Real ownership from week one in a plant small enough that your decisions visibly change how it runs
- Support to take the SQF Practitioner designation
- Health/dental insurance, vacation time
