Job Summary The Manager, Media Relations will support the Director, Communications in executing the Toronto Tempo’s media relations strategy, with a focus on day-to-day press engagement, game operations, player and coach media coordination, and league collaboration. The Manager, Media Relations to support the execution of the team’s media strategy, manage day-to-day press operations, and serve as a key point of contact for media covering the Tempo throughout the season. They will be a visible representative of the Tempo, supporting media coverage across home and road games, team initiatives, and key league moments, while helping ensure consistency, accuracy, and excellence in all public-facing information. This role will travel with the team during the season and play a critical role in shaping how the Tempo shows up publicly - on game days, on the road, and in moments that matter. Job Duties and Responsibilities Media Relations and Press Operations Support the Director, Communications in the execution of the team’s media relations strategy across the season, including game days, practices, events and team announcements. Lead as the day-to-day contact for local, national and international media covering the Tempo. Assist with drafting, editing, and distributing press releases, game day notes, media advisories, and team updates. Coordinate media requests, interviews, and availabilities for players, coaches and basketball operations staff. Maintain media lists and support ongoing relationship-building with reporters, editors, producers and broadcasters. Monitor daily media coverage and support media tracking and reporting efforts. Basketball Operations Communications Serve as the primary communications liaison on the road between Basketball Operations staff and external media, ensuring real-time alignment on messaging, injury updates, roster transactions and competitive matters. Act as the day-to-day communications partner to Basketball Operations, maintaining close working relationships with the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Head Coach, Medical Director and performance staff.



Ensure Basketball Operations leadership is informed in advance of all Tempo and WNBA announcements, press releases, injury reports, and other public-facing communications. Coordinate internal information flow related to player availability, transactions, league notices and medical updates to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Support the development of player and team storylines by identifying media opportunities aligned with Tempo values and priorities. Support preparation of basketball staff for media interactions, including talking points and situational context by providing media prep materials, backgrounders, and briefing documents for players and executives. Exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive team matters, including competitive strategy and medical information. Game Day and Team Travel Support Travel with the team during the WNBA season to support media operations on the road. Manage game-day media logistics, including credentialing, press room operations, interview coordination, and post-game coverage. Assist with pre- and post-game media schedules for players and coaches. Serve as an on-site information resource for media, ensuring timely and accurate communication of team news, lineups and updates. Manage coordination with league, broadcast, and opposing team communications staff during road games. League and Stakeholder Coordination Support the Director, Communications in liaising with the WNBA’s communications team to ensure league standards, timelines, and protocols are met or exceeded. Assist with league-wide initiatives such as the WNBA Draft, training camp, All-Star, playoffs, awards, and other marquee events. Coordinate with player agents, league partners, and internal stakeholders to support public-facing objectives. Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a related field required. Minimum 5 years proven experience in media relations, public relations, or sports communications, preferably within professional sports or live event environments. Strong understanding of media operations, newsroom workflows, and sports coverage. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Calm, professional presence in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.



Knowledge of the WNBA, women’s basketball, or the Canadian sports media landscape considered an asset. Must be able to work evening, weekends, and after hours throughout the entire calendar year. Must be able to travel internationally for weeks at a time. Confidentiality – ability to keep confidentiality and to practice discretion.
