Registered Psychologist — Psychological Assessment & Psychotherapy
Location: Downtown Toronto, near Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue
Position: Independent Contractor
Compensation: $150–$195 per clinical hour for psychotherapy + set fees for psychological assessments
Schedule: Minimum two in-office days per week
About New Moon Psychotherapy
New Moon Psychotherapy is a thriving Toronto-based group practice specializing in trauma, relationship (couples and family), and sex therapy.
Our team is authentic, thoughtful, and clinically sharp. We believe deeply in our clients’ capacity to heal. We don’t collude with avoidance or treat trauma survivors as fragile. Instead, we provide compassionate, structured care that helps clients build safety, develop agency, and move toward meaningful recovery.
Alongside our core clinical work, we also provide support to individuals who have been accused or convicted of sexual and gender-based violence.
We are now expanding our services to include psychological assessment and are looking for a Registered Psychologist with expertise in assessment to join our team.
A key focus of this position is psychological assessment. We welcome both psychologists who want to focus primarily on assessment and those who would like to combine assessment with an individual, couples, and/or family psychotherapy caseload.
If you’re an experienced psychologist who is passionate about thoughtful assessment, trauma-focused care, and complex clinical work—and wants to grow alongside a collaborative clinical team—we’d love to hear from you.
Application instructions are available on our website.
Psychological Assessment
We are particularly seeking psychologists with experience providing:
- Adult ADHD assessments
- Adult autism assessments
- Forensic and risk assessments, including offender, recidivism, violence, sexual offending, and related risk assessments
- Psychodiagnostic and differential diagnostic assessments
Our clients often present with complex and overlapping concerns. Assessment needs may include:
- PTSD and other trauma-related disorders
- ADHD and autism
- Depression and mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Personality disorders
- Sexual and behavioural concerns, including out-of-control sexual behaviour
- Complex and overlapping mental health presentations
Given the population we serve, we particularly value experience diagnosing trauma-related disorders and thoughtfully considering the impact of traumatic life experiences when conducting differential diagnosis. You do not need to provide every type of assessment listed above. Expertise in ADHD, autism, and/or forensic assessment is particularly sought after, and psychologists are welcome to offer additional assessments within their training, authorized areas, and scope of competence.
Psychological assessment is a recent service at New Moon, with a clear focus on ADHD, autism, forensic/risk, and psychodiagnostic assessment that complements our established work in trauma, relationships, and sexuality.
As we build this area, you’ll have an opportunity to bring your expertise to the development of our assessment services and help shape how this work grows within the practice.
Clinical & Psychotherapy Work For psychologists interested in psychotherapy, our primary areas of clinical practice are trauma, relationship (couples and family), and sex therapy.
Clinical work may include
- PTSD, complex trauma, and sexual trauma
- Sex and intimacy concerns, including out-of-control sexual behaviour, erectile dysfunction, pain with intercourse, and mismatched desire
- Couples and relationship concerns, including infidelity and betrayal, attachment, and relational distress
- Neurodivergence and its intersection with relationships, sexuality, and mental health
- Depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and other concerns that intersect with our primary areas of practice
- Supporting individuals who have been accused or convicted of sexual or gender-based violence
Depending on your training and interests, your clinical work may include individual psychotherapy, couples and family therapy, sex therapy, and trauma-focused psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is not required. We welcome both psychologists who want to focus on assessment and those who are excited about combining assessment and psychotherapy.
You’re a Great Fit If You:
- Believe, down to your core, that recovery from trauma is possible.
- Wholeheartedly reject labels such as “difficult” or “resistant” and approach each client with curiosity, compassion, and a willingness to understand what is driving their presentation.
- Have strong assessment skills and are comfortable working with complex and overlapping presentations.
- Understand how trauma can shape clinical presentation and thoughtfully consider traumatic life experiences when making a diagnosis.
- Have expertise in one or more of our priority assessment areas: ADHD, autism, forensic/risk, or psychodiagnostic assessment.
- If providing trauma psychotherapy, are trained in trauma-focused approaches such as CPT, EMDR, IFS, DBR, or DBT-PTSD.
- Believe clients are active participants in the therapeutic process and provide care that builds agency rather than reinforcing avoidance or fragilizing clients.
- Feel comfortable having open, nuanced, and non-judgmental conversations about trauma, sexuality, relationships, offending behaviour, and other experiences that may carry significant stigma.
- Provide sex-positive, culturally responsive, and affirming care across identities.
- Value professional autonomy while also enjoying consultation and collaboration with a community of thoughtful clinicians.
Requirements
- A PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) as a Psychologist.
- Authorization to practise autonomously and conduct psychological assessments within the relevant areas of practice.
- Training and demonstrated experience in psychological assessment and differential diagnosis.
- Experience providing ADHD, autism, forensic/risk, and/or psychodiagnostic assessments.
- Experience assessing trauma-related disorders and considering the impact of trauma within diagnostic formulation and differential diagnosis.
- Availability to provide in-person services at least two days per week.
This is a specialized position requiring established assessment training and clinical experience. Schedule & In-Office Commitment
Our clinical hours include
- Daytime: 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
- Evening: 3:00–9:00 p.m.
- Weekends: Flexible
Applicants must be available to provide in-person services at least two days per week within these clinical hours. Clinicians otherwise have flexibility in establishing their schedules and may incorporate virtual services where clinically appropriate.

Psychological assessments are compensated separately at a predetermined fee per assessment, based on the type and complexity of the assessment.
Additional paid opportunities are available for psychologists interested in supervision, consultation, workshops, qualified training, and program development.
