Host — The Waypoint Restaurant & Bar, Kaslo Hotel The Kaslo Hotel is looking for a Host to be the first friendly face guests see at The Waypoint Restaurant & Bar. Located on the shore of Kootenay Lake and surrounded by the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains, the hotel has 17 guest rooms as well as The Waypoint Restaurant & Bar. We take pride in offering a warm, well-kept place for travelers and our community.

This is a people-first role for someone who is quick on their feet and genuinely enjoys making others feel welcome. You will greet guests, manage seating and reservations, and help set the tone for every table's experience from the moment they walk in the door. We are looking for someone friendly, organized, and comfortable managing a busy floor while contributing to a small team.

As Host, you will work closely with the Restaurant Manager and the front-of-house and kitchen teams to keep service moving smoothly. Your work will have a direct impact on the guest experience, especially during busy dinner services and peak summer and ski-season periods.

Most importantly, you will take pride in creating a welcoming first impression. That means more than seating people at a table. It means reading the room, anticipating what guests need, and helping maintain the pace and character of a busy restaurant floor.

What we are looking for The right candidate is friendly, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Previous hosting, serving, or customer service experience is preferred, but we are open to someone with a strong work ethic who is willing to learn our standards and routines. You should be able to stay calm and clear-headed during rushes, communicate well with the kitchen and servers, and make every guest — regular or first-timer — feel looked after.

You do not need to know everything on day one, but you do need to be dependable, take direction well, and be willing to help wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities

- Greet guests warmly as they arrive and manage the flow of seating, reservations,



and wait times.
- Maintain an accurate, organized seating chart and communicate wait times clearly and honestly.
- Coordinate with servers and kitchen staff on table status, timing, and special requests.
- Answer phones, take reservations, and handle takeout or to-go order inquiries.
- Keep the host stand, entryway, and waiting area clean, tidy, and welcoming.
- Address guest questions, concerns, or special requests promptly and professionally.
- Support the front-of-house team with bussing, resetting tables, or other tasks during busy periods.
- Handle payment processing and to-go orders when needed.
- Take ownership of details, address concerns early, and contribute to a respectful, practical team environment.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in hosting, serving, or customer service is an asset.
- Ability to work efficiently and stay composed in a fast-paced, high-traffic workplace.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear and friendly communication skills.
- Comfortable standing, walking, and moving throughout the shift.
- Dependability and good time management.
- A professional, positive attitude and a genuine commitment to guest service.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and busy summer and winter periods.
