Dunwald & Fleming Enterprises Ltd. is a Calgary based company that started in 1978. The organization has grown and evolved over the past 45+ years to include a robust management team and set of skilled and experienced field personnel to assist our clients in civil and underground utilities projects across Alberta. We believe in creating a client focused organization that conducts its operations in a safe and efficient manner.

This has allowed Dunwald & Fleming to grow its organization to a team of 60 core employees, and during peak construction seasons, expand that workforce to in excess of 120 personnel.

Role Overview

We are actively seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to play a critical role on our leadership team, steering the development and execution of our health and safety strategy. Health & Safety is not just a compliance function at Dunwald & Fleming; it is a shared responsibility across the organization, and a reflection of our values. We are looking for a Health & Safety leader who builds robust relationships, influences positively, and partners with all teams to maintain a safe, accountable, and high-performing workplace.

Key Responsibilities

· Support and continuously improve Dunwald & Fleming’s Health & Safety management system, ensuring regulatory compliance while fostering a culture where safety conversations are open, practical, and solutions-focused

· Encourage a positive and proactive safety culture through engagement with all levels of management and workers in head office and the field

· Actively and proactively manage the Health & Safety program for the organization, including supporting and conducting site inspection audits, field level hazard assessments, job safety analyses for complex tasks, site orientations,



safety tailgate meetings and other tasks as required.

· Oversee the development and implementation of effective safety management initiatives.

· Provide oversight of corporate and site-specific emergency response plans, assurance, security management, training and competency.

· Work with operations and others to facilitate the development and implementation of effective learning management and competency development systems and tools

· Oversee subcontractor safety pre-qualification, site onboarding, and ongoing field performance compliance across all three operational divisions (Pre-construction, Shallow Utilities, and Civil/Earthworks).

· Liaise with regulators, non-government organizations, community groups and external stakeholders as required.

· Laise with clients on required safety training, reporting, contractual compliance and other requirements.

· Conduct worksite, shop, yard, and office health and safety inspections. Identify deficiencies, opportunities for improvement and develop and implement associated corrective actions.

· Manage WCB claims, disability management, and early-return-to-work modified duties programs in conjunction with HR and executive leadership.

· Lead and or participate in Incident Investigations, help identify root cause, and aid in the development of appropriate corrective actions. Ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed.





· Conduct new hire and contractor safety orientations and onboarding, ensuring all required training, certifications, documentation, and site-specific requirements are completed.

· Coordinate and maintain employee training, certifications, competency records, and renewal requirements to ensure ongoing compliance with company, client, and regulatory standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certification designation is an asset. Candidates actively pursuing either credential with clear or demonstrated progress toward completion will also be considered.

· Occupational Health & Safety degree, diploma or certificate or relevant experience is an asset

· Proven experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally in the construction industry

· Strong understanding of the Alberta OH&S; Act, Regulation, and Code

· Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within the construction industry and experience in the development and implementation of programs to strategically manage risks in these areas.

· Ability to perform regular field visits and inspections in active construction environments.

· Ability to work with stakeholders to deliver effective corporate programs and enhance safety culture.

· Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.

· Proficiency in digital safety reporting software (e.g., eCompliance, SiteDocs, Procore, or similar).
