Internship Opportunity: Structural Engineering Student (Trail, B.C.)Hatch seeks a third‑ or fourth‑year civil engineering student, with a specific interest in structural analysis and design, to join our Project Delivery Group in September 2026 for a structured internship experience.What the Internship OffersOpportunities to contribute to complex projects worldwide.Hands‑on experience with engineering drawings, design calculations, material takeoff, literature review, technical specifications, and reports.Exposure to structural inspections, field visits, and site activities on existing industrial sites.Training in CAD tools for 2D drawings and 3D modeling and analytic tools for FEM modeling.Support for progress reporting and assessment of ongoing construction and condition assessment tasks.Collaboration with diverse teams locally and globally.Mentorship and participation in knowledge‑sharing events such as lunch and learns, charity events, and student showcase.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the preparation of engineering drawings, design calculations, material takeoff, literature review, technical specifications, and reports for energy and industrial projects.Assist intermediate and senior engineers in performing structural inspections, field visits, and other site activities on existing industrial sites.Use CAD tools for 2D drawings and 3D modelling.Analyze using analytical tools to develop FEM models under the supervision of engineers.Provide support for progress reporting and assessment for various ongoing construction and condition assessment tasks.Interface with field staff and support project site work, as necessary.QualificationsCurrent 2nd, 3rd,
or 4th year civil engineering student at an accredited university; enrollment or successful completion of structural engineering courses required.Familiarity with CAD/Design software applications such as MathCAD, Excel, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills.Familiarity with Microsoft Office software.High regard for job safety and quality work.Team‑work ability.Extracurricular involvement that demonstrates interest in structural engineering and passion for engineering.CompetenciesUnderstanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects.Rapid learning and capacity to take on new challenges.Cooperative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Critical and creative thinking with problem‑solving ability and solution orientation.Adaptability and openness to change.CompensationHourly rate: $25.00 – $33.00, depending on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
