We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accounting & Financial Reporting Expert with deep expertise in IFRS, financial instruments, and complex accounting matters .
The successful candidate will advise Canadian financial institutions and public companies on complex transactions, technical accounting issues, financial reporting, and accounting policy development.
This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with professional judgment, client advisory experience, leadership, and an entrepreneurial mindset .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex accounting and financial reporting engagements.
- Advise clients on the interpretation and application of IFRS and other relevant accounting frameworks .
- Analyze complex financial instruments, including derivatives, debt, financing, equity, and hedge accounting .
- Prepare and review technical accounting analyses, accounting positions, and complex memoranda.
- Provide advice on novel and complex accounting situations requiring significant qualified judgment.
- Assist financial institutions with developing and evolving accounting policies.
- Review deliverables and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and develop current business.
- Contribute to the development and growth of new accounting and advisory services.
- Support partners and senior leadership with practice development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of relevant accounting/financial reporting experience.
- 5+ years of consulting or professional services experience.
- Strong expertise in financial instruments – this is a key requirement.
- Deep knowledge of IFRS and complex accounting matters .
- Experience within one or more of the following:
- Banks / financial institutions
- Insurance companies
- Investment funds
- Canadian public companies
- Organizations dealing with complex financial products
- Background in financial institution auditing, technical accounting consulting, or accounting policy development .
- Proven experience analyzing complex IFRS transactions and accounting issues.
- Ability to lead complex engagements from planning through delivery.
- Strong client management and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience with business development, client relationship management, or service-line growth .
