Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer - Java, Kafka & AWS

Experience: 7 to 10 Years

Rate: CAD 70 to 80 per hour

Role Summary

We are hiring for a Senior Backend Engineer to work on a project focused on backend services, distributed systems, streaming data, and cloud platforms. The role involves hands-on development using Java, Apache Kafka, AWS, and modern data-processing technologies.

The selected candidate will work across backend applications, event-driven systems, data pipelines, and interconnected cloud and data platforms, with a focus on system design, production support, and technical ownership.

Key Responsibilities

- Build and maintain scalable backend services and distributed applications using Java.
- Develop and support Kafka-based event-driven systems and data pipelines.
- Design and maintain streaming and large-scale data-processing solutions using Apache Flink and Apache Spark.
- Work with Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, and data lake or lakehouse architectures.
- Build and operate cloud-native services and data solutions on AWS.
- Develop and support REST APIs, microservices, and integrations using Java and Node.js/TypeScript.
- Participate in system design and make technical decisions related to scalability, performance, reliability, security, and cost.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production applications, data pipelines, and distributed systems using Splunk or similar observability tools.
- Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD, application reliability, and production support.
- Work with engineering, data, DevOps, SRE, security, QA, and product teams.
- Provide technical guidance and support implementation across backend and data platforms.

Must-Have Skills

- 7 to 10 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka.
- Experience with Apache Flink.




- Experience with Kafka Streaming or Kafka Streams.
- Experience building and supporting data pipelines or large-scale data-processing solutions.
- Experience with AWS and cloud-native development.
- Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience with Spring Boot or Spring Framework.
- Experience designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
- Experience developing REST APIs and microservices.
- Experience with SQL and database technologies.
- Experience with Splunk or similar production monitoring and log-analysis tools.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools.
- Experience with production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Experience with Apache Spark.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Experience with Apache Iceberg.
- Experience with data lake or lakehouse architectures.
- Experience with Dynatrace or Recent Relic.
- Experience with Terraform or infrastructure as code.
