Position Overview
Our client is seeking Senior Business Analysts to provide comprehensive business analysis services across complex business and technology initiatives. The successful candidates will work closely with business stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and technical teams to understand business needs, define requirements, analyze processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and support the delivery of effective I⁢ solutions.
The ideal candidates will have strong experience in requirements elicitation, stakeholder facilitation, business process modelling, process re-engineering, business analysis documentation, and working across Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct business analysis to assess business problems, opportunities, and requirements.
- Elicit, analyze, document, validate, and manage business and system requirements.
- Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, JAD sessions, and other requirements-gathering activities.
- Develop and document current-state (As-Is) and future-state (To-Be) process models.
- Create business process maps, workflow diagrams, use cases, user stories, business rules, and acceptance criteria.
- Identify business needs, process gaps, risks, issues, dependencies, and opportunities.
- Support business process re-engineering, transformation, modernization, and service improvement initiatives.
- Apply re-engineering concepts to identify alternative and cost-effective approaches to service delivery.
- Develop strategies, business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and feasibility studies for business and I⁢ initiatives.
- Conduct business modelling, use case modelling, conceptual and logical data modelling, and process/data-flow modelling.
- Define functional, non-functional, and business requirements.
- Develop performance measures and requirements traceability matrices.
- Translate business and data requirements into specifications that support appropriate technology solutions.
- Prepare business documentation, reports, presentations, briefing notes, recommendations, and other project deliverables.
- Monitor progress, identify and resolve issues, and provide regular updates to management and stakeholders.
- Work within applicable project management,
enterprise architecture, systems development, and governance methodologies.
- Support application development lifecycle activities including testing, implementation, and change management.
- Work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and build consensus among diverse groups.
- Stay informed about emerging I⁢ trends, technologies, business analysis practices, and industry standards.
- Ensure consideration of accessibility, privacy, UX, and applicable public-sector requirements.
Requirements
Mandatory Skills & Experience
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
Functional Business Analysis
- Proven experience eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and validating business and system requirements.
- Proven experience facilitating stakeholder interviews, workshops, JAD sessions, and requirements-gathering activities.
- Proven experience documenting business processes, business rules, use cases, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Proven experience developing current-state (As-Is) and future-state (To-Be) process models.
- Ability to identify business needs, process improvements, gaps, risks, and opportunities.
- Experience supporting business process re-engineering, transformation, and modernization initiatives.
- Experience developing strategies, business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and feasibility studies.
- Strong understanding of requirements management, traceability, business modelling, and process analysis.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Visio.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or equivalent business/project management tools.
- Experience working in Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments.
- Experience creating process maps, workflow diagrams, and business models.
- Understanding of application development lifecycles, testing, implementation, and change management.
- Knowledge of UX principles, accessibility requirements, and service design methodologies.
- Experience with CASE tools or equivalent tools for documenting conceptual requirements and project scope.
- Ability to translate business and data requirements into specifications suitable for technology solution design.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build consensus and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Experience preparing business documentation, reports, presentations, briefing notes, and recommendations.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to identify and clearly communicate risks, issues, dependencies, and impacts.
Public Sector / Governance Experience
- Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), preferably within complex public-sector environments.
- Understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices.
- Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related accessibility standards/regulations.
- Familiarity with privacy, accessibility, UX design, and service design considerations.
- Experience navigating complex organizational structures, governance processes, and approval chains.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using information retrieval packages.
- Experience with structured, object-oriented, and Agile methodologies.
- Experience developing performance measures for business analysis evaluation and follow-up.
- Knowledge of OPS Unified Project Management Methodology, Enterprise Architecture and Gating Process, and standard systems development methodologies.
- Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise transformation initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Profile The successful candidate will be a Senior Business Analyst with strong end-to-end business analysis experience and the ability to independently lead requirements and process analysis activities. They should be comfortable facilitating workshops and JAD sessions, developing As-Is/To-Be process models, engaging senior stakeholders, documenting complex requirements, and translating business needs into actionable technology specifications.
Important: This is a 100% onsite position in downtown Toronto, 5 days per week. Candidates must be able to commit to the onsite requirement for the duration of the assignment.
