It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionThe City of Merritt has an opportunity for an Engineering Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will coordinate and inspect municipal capital projects and development activities as they relate to roads, water, wastewater and facilities. You will apply your expertise to review preliminary and detailed design drawing submissions, perform fieldwork such as surveying and handle inspection and enforcement of municipal development infrastructure installations. As an Engineering Technologist with the City of Merritt, you will collect infrastructure data for the City of Merritt’s GIS system, prepare and/or coordinate municipal infrastructure planning reports, implement detailed analysis of existing and proposed infrastructure and compile and maintain the City’s record drawings and infrastructure reports. In addition, you will support the Public Works and Planning and Development departments with troubleshooting infrastructure and development-related issues and work collaboratively with other municipal staff and departments.QualificationsThis role is ideal for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about performing technical functions of a civil engineering nature.



The ideal candidate will possess:Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized educational institution, or equivalent academic training and experienceTwo or more years of experience in civil/municipal engineering field specifically related to project management and contract administrationSound experience in the use of MS Office, GIS, AutoCAD and related softwareExperience in water/sewer planning and project delivery is considered an assetThorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, terminology, practices and techniquesConsiderable knowledge of legislated civil construction codes and regulationsStrong organizational, interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to deal with contractors and consultants in a professional and timely mannerAbility to interpret and apply City and other bylaws, policies, procedures, engineering design standards and specificationsAbility to work well as part of a team and independentlyPhysical ability to stand and walk frequently throughout the day; occasionally attend andinspect construction sites including climbing in and out of ditches and trenches; ability to work in inclement weatherA valid BC driver’s licenseFor new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information checkAdditional InformationAt the City of Merritt, you will find a diverse and forward-thinking team committed to inclusive, collaborative, and innovative approaches to meet challenges, achieve our mission, and make a difference in the community. This position is within the Cupe local 900 bargaining unit, the rate of pay is: Uncertified Eng Tech $40.29 - Certified Eng Tech $47.26 (2026 rates) per hour.
