Position PurposeThe groundskeeper maintains the external grounds of The Salvation Army Blackmarsh Road cemetery.AccountabilitiesEnsures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding, and raking.Inspects grounds for obstacles and hazards and removes or disposes of them as required.Levels soil over graves, raking, moving soil with a wheelbarrow and shovelling.Picks up equipment and supplies.Ensures proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment.Reports damage, vandalism, hazards, etc. to supervisor.May include painting/staining.Manages own time and performs other duties as assigned.Health and SafetyUses personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer. Reports any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illnesses immediately and ensures care is taken with all equipment and property. Works in compliance with OH&S Act and regulations and abides by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Performs other work‑related duties as assigned.Working ConditionsWork performed outdoors. Requires operating industrial equipment and tools, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, and fine motor skills. Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non‑motorized/general cleaning equipment. Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Requires significant walking and lifting. Requires working in various weather conditions. Prescribed use of gloves, ear/eye protection (goggles), steel‑toe boots.Conditions of EmploymentSubmit a Police Record Check acceptable to The Salvation Army if applicable.



This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, and applicants must meet the program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria. Recent immigrants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible.Education, Experience and QualificationsWillingness to develop an understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose and its implications for the role.Willingness to obtain a Criminal/Police Check.Must sign the Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form.Up to 1 year of prior related experience in lawn maintenance and general familiarity with lawn equipment.Knowledge of health & safety standards.Represent the organization professionally.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Self‑motivated, reliable, and with a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.Effective organizational and time‑management skills.Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.Good listening and interpersonal skills.Compliance with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $16.35 to $19.50 per hour, with a maximum of $22.64.
