Server Assistant
New Italian Restaurant | Yonge & St. Clair | Now Hiring |
About Us A new Italian restaurant is opening at Yonge and St. Clair this fall. The room seats guests over two levels and serves both lunch and dinner, and it is backed by an established Toronto restaurant group with a long record in Italian hospitality.
The food is Italian home cooking done properly — simple, seasonal, approachable dishes built on quality ingredients and real technique. The drinks list is built around Italian wine, aperitivi and amari, alongside a serious espresso program.
Hospitality here is about honesty, and it should come from the heart. We greet every guest warmly and genuinely, we take the time to understand who is in front of us, and we communicate constantly, so that a table is looked after by the whole team rather than by one person working alone. In everything we do, the guest has the right of way.
We are hiring the entire front of house team ahead of opening. Everyone joining now joins the opening team: you will help set the standards rather than inherit them, and you will be trained on them properly before the first guest walks in.
The Role The Server Assistant keeps the restaurant running. This is a single, combined role carrying both the busser and the food runner functions: maintaining and resetting tables through the meal, and running, presenting and describing food from the pass.
The idea behind the position is a simple one — you help the servers deliver a seamless experience to the guest, moving between the two functions as service demands. It is also the defined entry point onto the training path toward the Server and Bartender roles, and we promote from within.
What You Will Do
- Run food from the pass, present each dish, and describe it accurately to the guest.
- Take direction from the expo on allergy plates, and say so as you set them down.
- Clear,
crumb and reset tables between courses and between seatings, quickly and quietly.
- Keep water poured, bread replenished and settings correct throughout the meal.
- Polish glassware and cutlery, and keep the stations stocked and clean.
- Support the bar and the host stand whenever the room allows it.
- Complete opening and closing duties, including the areas a guest never sees.
- Learn the menu. You are expected to describe every dish you carry.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous restaurant experience an asset — we will train the right candidate.
- Genuine interest in food, wine and hospitality, and the ambition to progress.
- Food Handler certification an asset; Smart Serve certification required if handling alcohol.
- Robust English communication skills.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Hours and Conditions Evening, weekend and holiday availability required. Continuous standing, walking, bending and carrying for the length of a shift, frequent stairs between levels, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Work around hot, wet and slippery conditions, handling glassware and cleaning chemicals following WHMIS training.
What We Offer
Hourly wage as per Ontario minimum wage legislation, plus participation in the gratuity pool as per restaurant policy. A five-day training path, and a defined route onto the Server and Bartender paths for anyone who wants it.
Equal Opportunity
We are an equal opportunity employer. We provide employment opportunities on the basis of qualifications, skills and abilities, and we make reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with known disabilities in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the AODA.
