Course Description: An introduction to a wide range of topics situated in modernism, postmodernism, and the contemporary that inform current art practice and critical discourse. The course investigates post-1970 art practice through diverse societal, cultural, and political influences of contemporary critical thought.

Dates of Appointments: September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026

Class Schedule: MO 16:00-17:00 (TUT0103), MO 17:00-18:00 (TUT 0112)

Hours of work: 105

Salary: $55.25/hour (plus vacation pay)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must hold a qualified Master of Visual Studies degree (mandatory). Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary art and its relevant discourse, professionalism, organizational ability, comfort with public speaking and leading group discussions, comfort with various forms of both written and oral communication. Relevant Criterion: Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Duties: Attending weekly lectures (in-person); grading student work; tabulating and tracking grades; invigilating tests and exams; holding office hours for regular meetings with students.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
