Job Summary:

The Approaches to Community Wellbeing department (ACW) is a regional resource to 31 First Nations communities. ACW provides expertise, support, services, and programming in public health to the region. The program also supports communities in the development, implementation, and monitoring of their own Approaches to Community Wellbeing. The Raising our Children section of the model includes Family Health, Youth Development, and Building Healthy Relationships.

The Manager – Raising Our Children will provide oversight and direction for the Raising our Children programming of the Approaches to Community Wellbeing. The Raising our Children Manager will oversee the regional services provided by the Raising our Children Team, and will work with communities to enhance their capacity around Raising our Children initiatives.

The Manager – Raising Our Children is directly accountable to the Director – Approaches to Community Wellbeing.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a health or social services related field or a combination of education/experience as deemed acceptable by SLFNHA.

2 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution or a combination of education/experience as deemed acceptable by SLFNHA.

2 years direct work experience in family health, youth development, or healthy relationships or a combination of education/experience as deemed acceptable by SLFNHA.

Extensive knowledge of public health, including family health (maternal, newborn, child health), youth development, and healthy relationships.

Experience supervising, planning and evaluating projects

Understanding of public health systems (including Health Promotion and Protection Act and the Ontario Public Health Standards), and First Nations health systems

Understanding of the unique determinants of health for First Nations in northwestern Ontario, and the health landscape in which they seek services.

Experience working both independently and in a team-orientated, team-oriented environment is essential.





Strong written and oral communication skills

Strong leadership and supervisory skills

Experience managing budgets and fulfilling reporting requirements to funders

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Ability to develop and maintain respectful/cooperative relationships with First Nations people, communities, service stakeholders, and health care providers to promote an integrated seamless delivery of service

Experience and training in cultural competency with First Nations

Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects within the Sioux Lookout Zone an asset

Must be willing to travel

Must be willing to relocate and live in Sioux Lookout

The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis

Work with the ACW Director and Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ an appropriate number of employees to enhance Raising our Children.

Provide supervision and direction to Raising our Children staff by:

Ensuring communication practices are clear

Providing effective problem solving and conflict resolution as required

Administering, monitoring, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures

Appraising employee job results

Providing ongoing coaching, advice, and motivation

Identifying and supporting professional development and training of staff

3.Monitor work plan and budgets of Raising our Children

Managing the development of annual work plans and reports

Conducting ongoing health planning with the Raising our Children staff

Assisting in the preparation of an annual budget for each program area as per service goals and objectives

Monitoring and ensuring proper financial coding

Assisting with the preparation and submission of funding requests and report

Coordinate the ongoing promotion of Raising our Children

Managing preparation, maintenance, and submission of all correspondence, reports, and briefing notes

Conducting presentations as needed

5. Coordinate and supervise Raising our Children services

Planning, developing, and implementing systems that perform the work and fulfill the goals of the program efficiently and effectively

Liaising with leadership, frontline workers, health care providers, and other service workers in communities to collaboratively strategize means to tackle priority issues related to Raising our Children

Facilitating delivery of Raising our Children services to support communitiesParticipating and direct delivery of training, educational, and capacity building activities for all communities related to Raising our Children

Actioning community concerns and requests appropriately

6. In conjunction with the policy, develop regional policies, objectives, and standards for Raising our Children
7. Support program and service evaluation and quality improvement

Evaluating the effectiveness, acceptability, availability, and cost efficiency of Raising our Children programming in conjunction with the planning and evaluation staff

Ensuring that systems are in place to monitor the delivery health services to the First Nations communities

8. Represent the organization as required in various settings:

Representing SLFNHA on external committees or at meetings as needed

Conducting presentations to various stakeholders and at conferences and meetings, as appropriate

Conducting community visits on a regular basis

Understanding the organization’s mandate and be able to convey at forums as required

9. Provide assistance when required and any other duties assigned
