Transom, a division of Mestek Canada Inc., is a leading manufacturer of large high-temperature heat pumps for the commercial and industrial markets in Canada and the United States. Our heat pumps are specifically designed for the rapidly growing electrification of the HVAC sector. Additionally, we produce CO2 heat pumps for the domestic hot water market.
Transom is making significant investments in its growth by expanding our production facilities, which will include climate chambers for the development and testing of new products.
Job Purpose The Shipper/Receiver manages the physical and digital flow of incoming and outgoing goods. This role ensures that client shipments are packed securely, inventory tracking metrics remain flawless, and inbound raw materials or products are inspected and safely routed.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Logistics
- Prepare documents: Generate accurate bills of lading (BOL), packing slips, invoices, and customs documentation via computer.
- Pack materials: Securely assemble containers, crates, or pallets; affix correct labels and shipping destination details.
- Coordinate freight: Determine optimal shipping methods and interface directly with transport drivers and logistics carriers.
- Quality checks: Conduct final quality inspections on outgoing items to verify customer specifications match shipment contents.
Receiving Operations
- Unload deliveries: Safely oversee or physically execute the unloading of inbound shipments from freight carriers.
- Verify inventory: Inspect all incoming goods against packing slips to confirm physical item counts and record any shortages.
- Manage damage logs: Promptly identify and document damaged materials; reject bad stock and escalate findings to supervisors.
- System updates:
Utilize RF scanners and/or internal Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to track and stock goods in designated locations.
- Equipment operation: Safely operate material handling machinery including forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Clean workspace: Keep loading bays, storage aisles, and packing stations clean to comply with safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent secondary school education.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in a warehouse shipping and receiving environment.
- Certifications: Valid Forklift Operator Certification (Counterbalance/Reach) is strongly preferred.
- Technical skills: Proficiency with data entry and computerized logistics software.
Physical Demands & Environment
- Ability to routinely lift and move warehouse items up to 35–50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, walk, and perform repetitive movements throughout an entire shift.
