Garden City Groundskeeping Services Ltd. is looking for reliable, hardworking, and safety-focused Snow Clearing Walk Crew Members to join our winter operations team. This is a hands-on seasonal role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, and being part of a team that takes pride in getting the job done right.
As a Snow Clearing Walk Crew Member, you’ll play an key role in keeping our commercial properties safe and accessible throughout the winter season. You’ll clear snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, steps, and other pedestrian areas, apply ice melter as directed, and work closely with the Team Lead and Dispatch to ensure properties are properly serviced.

Role Overview:
The Snow Clearing Walk Crew Member is responsible for clearing snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, walkways, and other designated pedestrian areas as directed.
The goal is simple: help make every property safe, clean, and accessible. This role requires someone who is hardworking, safety-conscious, follows instructions, and takes pride in the quality of their work.

Key Responsibilities:
Snow Clearing & De-Icing
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, steps, and designated pedestrian areas.
- Apply ice melter as directed and as required.
- Follow snow-clearing SOPs and established site procedures.
- Follow proper snow-clearing and de-icing methods.
- Maintain site safety, cleanliness, and accessibility.
- Complete assigned tasks according to direction and expected timelines.
Safety & Equipment
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Operate snow-clearing tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Maintain and properly care for tools and equipment.
- Clean and return tools/equipment after each snow event as required.
- Report damaged equipment or required repairs to the Team Lead.
- Follow all company health and safety policies and applicable regulations.
Communication & Teamwork
- Maintain communication with Dispatch and the Team Lead during snow events.
- Follow verbal instructions and ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Communicate any site, safety, equipment, or other concerns promptly.
- Work cooperatively with the walk crew and winter operations team.
- Be willing to assist team members as needed to complete assigned work.
What Success Looks Like (Performance Expectations) Safety: Work is completed safely, PPE is used properly, and hazards are communicated promptly.
Quality: Snow and ice are properly cleared, ice melter is applied as directed, and pedestrian areas are left safe and accessible.
Teamwork: Works cooperatively with the Team Lead and crew and contributes to getting the job completed.
Reliability: Available when required, arrives prepared, and is ready to work during snow events.
Communication: Follows instructions and communicates questions, concerns, and site issues promptly.
Equipment Care: Tools and equipment are used properly, maintained, and cleaned after snow events.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- 3+ years of snow-clearing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of proper snow-clearing and de-icing practices.
- Ability to safely operate required snow-clearing tools and equipment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow verbal instructions.
- Ability to read labels and signs and complete required daily reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to problem-solve and use good judgment in the field.
- Ability to walk, stand, crouch, and perform strenuous physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- First Aid training and certification is an asset.
- Valid G driver's licence and safe driving record is an asset;
- Reliable and available for on-call work during snow events.
Working Conditions & Seasonal Expectations:
- 24/7 on-call shift work from November 15 to April 15.
- Outdoor work in varying and challenging winter weather conditions.
- Physical role requiring prolonged periods of walking, standing, crouching, and physical activity.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Schedule may vary based on weather conditions and operational needs.
