CMHAKelowna & District is hiring a part time Youth Supportive Housing Worker inthe Bright Mindz Program offering 16 hours per week. The schedule for thisposition is Saturday and Sunday, 3:30pm – 11:30pm.

WHOIS A YOUTH SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WORKER?
The Youth Supportive HousingWorker (YSHW) in the Bright Mindz Program is dedicated to supporting youngindividuals who are housed in a specialized youth floor at a market housingbuilding. This position focuses on assisting program participants who haveexperienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, promoting housingstability and enhancing quality of life. The YSHW collaborates with amultidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plansencompassing health referrals, social connections, life skills, and educationaland employment support.

WHATDOES A YOUTH SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WORKER DO?

Fosterand maintain collaborative relationships with housing, health, and socialservice professionals to address clients’ needs effectively

Createand implement individualized support plans aimed at achieving housing stabilityfor each program participant

Provideslife skills training such as cooking, housekeeping and personal self-managementskills

Connectclients to available income supports as required and advocate on their behalfwith relevant agencies

Liaisewith community agencies and businesses to ensure program needs are met andfacilitate the flow of information and resources

Provideaccurate information and appropriate referrals to clients regarding communityresources

Employan ethical, efficient, and therapeutic approach to crisis intervention in atimely manner

Ensurethe safety of clients in potentially dangerous situations, followingestablished protocols

Maintainaccurate case files, notes, and daily statistics regarding client interactionsand program activities





Preparereferral letters and manage information updates to assist other agencies

Ensurecompliance with program policies, including monitoring tenant guest policies

Performsother related duties as assigned

YOURSTRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

MinimumGrade 12 or equivalent education required

CriminalRecords Check Clearance in the vulnerable sector is required

Diplomain Community Social Service considered an asset

Understandingof working with a Trauma Informed lens

Abilityto be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/orrecovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental healthchallenges and/or mental illness

Certificatesin First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Naloxone and Food Safe are considered an asset

Experienceworking with youth, particularly those facing homelessness, mental illness, and/oraddictions is considered an asset

Experienceworking with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) is considered an asset

Abilityto build trusting relationships with youth, demonstrating empathy andunderstanding

Effectivewritten and verbal communication skills

Mediationand conflict resolution skills to address disputes and challenges amongresidents

Abilityto maintain consistent professional boundaries

Familiaritywith health and social service systems, especially the income assistance system

Understandingof Harm Reduction theory and demonstrated ability to implement harm reductionstrategies

Understandingof Intentional Outreach, Housing First, Rapid Re-Housing,



and Shelter Diversionprinciples is considered an asset

Proficientin Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Criticalthinking and problem-solving skills to assess client needs and developappropriate interventions
