Technician – ICU/ Critical Care, Veterinary Medical CentrePrimary PurposeAs an ICU/Critical Care Technician, you will ensure that an optimum level of patient care is maintained 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week. This position functions between the areas of critical care, medicine, surgery, triage and radiology.Nature of WorkReporting to the Manager Health Services, this position functions on a rotational basis providing coverage during the day, evening, weekend and statutory holidays between critical care, medicine, surgery, triage and radiology. Animal handling and manipulations are constant. This position works in an animal facility with small and large animals exposing employees to dander, waste and unpredictability; it requires lifting, moving, cleaning; subject to unpleasant odours and dress code, traffic pattern restrictions.Typical Duties / AccountabilitiesManages and monitors critically ill patientsProvides emergency animal careTriage patients as requiredRecovers patients from anesthesia, per instructions from licensed veterinariansMonitors performance of aseptic technique and arranges OR setting for optimal patient careAssists in imaging/ultrasound proceduresHandles and restrains animalsMakes and maintains health recordsAssists with supervision of undergraduate veterinary and veterinary technology studentsMakes and maintains equipment,



supplies and facilityQualificationsEducation:Graduate of a recognized two-year veterinary technology program; registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists; and a member or eligible for membership with the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association.Experience:Preference for applicants with at least three years of experience in critical care/emergency medicine, medicine, surgery, triage, and radiology. Applicants who meet CUPE 1975 Phase 5 listed above will be given priority; we may also consider applicants not fully qualified but show interest in learning. Successful applicants who do not meet full qualifications may be offered a lower classification (Phase 4 or Phase 3) and lower pay rate.
