The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, serving children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. We have an exciting prospect to join our Allied Health team as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). This position provides site wide SLP with a focus on patient & family-centred care services and based on identified need within the site, ambulatory areas &/or inpatients and may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

This position primarily supports the Augmentative Communication & Educational Technology Service (ACETS) providing assessment & consultation to children & adults across Southern Alberta who are unable to meet their daily communication needs due to developmental, degenerative, physical &/or sensory limitations. ACETS is a Level III Assessment Centre for Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Speech-Generating Communication Device (SGCD) benefit area. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for interprofessional collaboration, assessment & intervention within the clinical assignment, work with families & community partners, & way-finding support.

You will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; exhibit advanced clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills; be organized in managing complex caseload; demonstrate initiative & adaptability to meet varying clinical & operational needs; demonstrate effective interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills and participate in research, communities of practice, and program development. Supervision of graduate students & therapy assistants is required. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience.

As a Speech Language Pathologist,



you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners.

Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications

Knowledge of and experience with Augmentative & Alternative Communication, apps and devices. Recent (within the last two years) clinical experience in a pediatric rehabilitation setting. Knowledge, skills and experience in complex communication disorders, pediatric and adult.

Knowledge and understanding of pediatric development and conditions (e.g., neurological conditions, acquired developmental disorders, neurodegenerative diagnoses). Knowledge and experience in tertiary rehabilitation service delivery. BCLS-HCP certification.

Preferred Qualifications

AADL authorizer. Knowledge of community resources and programs.
