AI & Business Solutions Engineer (Contract Position) The AI & Business Solutions Engineer serves as the bridge between business operations and technology delivery.
Working directly with stakeholders across Operations, Project Management, Estimating, Finance, HR, Health & Safety, and Corporate Services, this role identifies opportunities to improve business processes through artificial intelligence, automation, analytics, integration, and custom application development.
Unlike a traditional software developer, this role combines business consulting, solution architecture, application development, systems integration, and AI enablement. The successful candidate will take ownership of solutions from discovery and design through implementation and continuous improvement.
Role and Responsibilities
Business Discovery & Solution Design
Engage directly with business stakeholders to understand challenges, workflows, and operational requirements.
Identify opportunities for automation, AI adoption, process improvement, and digital transformation.
Facilitate discovery workshops and requirements gathering sessions.
Translate business needs into practical technology solutions.
Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate ideas before implementation.
Design and implement AI-enabled business solutions.
Develop and configure Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, and AI-driven workflows.
Leverage technologies such as Microsoft AI Services, Claude, OpenAI, and other emerging AI platforms where appropriate.
Implement solutions involving document intelligence, knowledge retrieval, search, summarization, and workflow automation.
Help business units identify and responsibly adopt AI technologies that improve productivity and business outcomes.
Application Development
Design, build, and maintain internal web applications and business tools.
Develop modern user interfaces and employee-facing portals.
Create APIs and integration services.




Develop reusable components and applications that improve operational efficiency.
Participate in application life cycle management from design through deployment.
Systems Integration
Integrate enterprise systems using APIs, web services, and middleware.
Develop solutions that connect Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Azure, Entra ID, Power Platform, Power BI, ERP and operational systems, document management platforms, service management solutions, and artificial intelligence platforms.
Data & Analytics
Build dashboards, reports, and business intelligence solutions.
Develop data models and reporting frameworks.
Support executive and operational decision-making through meaningful analytics.
Assist in improving data quality, governance, and accessibility.
Evaluate emerging technologies and identify practical business applications.
Recommend modernization opportunities across departments.
Support enterprise AI and automation initiatives.
Contribute to development standards, governance practices, and technical best practices
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
Technical Skills
Demonstrated experience with:
React
Node.js
REST APIs
SQL and relational databases
Git and source control
Experience working with:
Microsoft 365
SharePoint Online
Power BI
Strong understanding of:
Application integration
Data structures and APIs




Authentication and authorization concepts
Cloud-based application development
Qualified Skills

Experience
4+ years of experience delivering business-focused technology solutions.
Experience working directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
Proven ability to move projects from concept through implementation.

This is a six (6) month full-time contract role with the potential for renewal, based upon 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 08:30 to 17:00 ET excluding holidays, along with support outside these hours for critical operations and support situations as they arise.
Work Location: Onsite at King City, Ontario office.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $1350,000 annualized
Travel Required: Up to 25%
