Western Day Care Centre is seeking caring, dependable and flexible Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to join our casual supply team.

Casual Supply Educators provide coverage for regular staff due to vacation, illness, professional development and other staffing needs. Shifts and hours will vary depending on Centre needs and employee availability.

Supply staff may be offered shifts at both our Blue Heron Drive and Emery Street West locations, where they are able to work at both sites. Applicants are encouraged to indicate their availability and whether they are able to accept shifts at one or both locations.

Applicants must be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide coverage in infant, toddler and preschool classrooms as required.
- Maintain required staff-to-child ratios and provide active supervision and guidance throughout daily routines, programming, indoor and outdoor play, and other activities.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment by engaging with children appropriately and facilitating child-directed activities and inquiries.
- Build positive, responsive relationships with children while encouraging healthy social interactions and modelling appropriate behaviour.
- Use caring, patient and positive child guidance practices, emphasizing positive behaviours and consulting with the classroom educators as needed.
- Support daily routines, including meals, rest periods, toileting/diapering and transitions.
- Maintain accurate records of children's sleep, meal intake and other relevant information as required,



including completing sleep safety checks every 30 minutes.
- Assess and support children's safety during routines, transitions and activities.
- Be aware of the general health and well-being of children and promptly communicate any changes or concerns to the classroom educators.
- Be aware of and appropriately respond to children's individual needs, restrictions, medical requirements and established support plans.
- Work collaboratively as an active member of the educational team and follow established classroom routines and programming.
- Be familiar with and follow Western Day Care Centre policies, procedures, curriculum and all applicable child care requirements.
- Be prepared to respond appropriately and effectively in emergency situations.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with children, families and colleagues.

Required Qualifications
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check dated within the previous 6 months.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and engage children in learning.
- Patience, flexibility and adaptability when working with diverse child populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.




- Ability to adapt to different classrooms, age groups, routines and staffing needs.

Schedule & Availability This is a casual/on-call position with no guaranteed hours. Shifts are offered based on the staffing needs of the Centre and the availability provided by each casual employee.

Casual Supply Educators may be offered full-day or partial-day shifts and should be comfortable working in different classrooms and age groups.
