Serac Eye and Skin Care Centre is a specialized multidisciplinary medical and surgical practice providing comprehensive ophthalmology and dermatology care, with a strong focus on patients requiring complex and oncology-related treatment.
Our Ophthalmology division provides comprehensive diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, and surgical care. The clinic manages ophthalmology surgical bookings and coordinates procedures both in-clinic and at Alberta Health Services (AHS) facilities and other surgical locations. Our team oversees the full patient journey, including required diagnostic testing, surgical preparation, scheduling, coordination, and follow-up care.
Our Dermatology division provides specialized assessment and surgical management of lesions, and a broad range of complex skin-related conditions, including oncology-Mohs focused cases. Care is supported by fellowship-trained surgical expertise, allowing our clinic to manage patients requiring advanced assessment and procedural care.
With up to seven specialists practicing across Ophthalmology and Dermatology, Serac Eye and Skin Care Centre operates as a busy, highly coordinated specialty clinic dedicated to providing comprehensive, efficient, and patient-focused care, particularly for patients with complex and oncology-related needs.

Position Overview: Surgical Coordinator
As our surgical coordinator you will be the point of contact for our patients, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. You will manage a variety of administrative tasks, contributing to the smooth operation of the surgical booking.
Prior experience in a surgical booking role within Ophthalmology division is a definite an asset.
This is a Full time Position. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in a surgical booking role and proficiency with Connect Care and Netcare.
The Role would be 3 days of surgical booking and 2 days of administrative duties and will be responsible for providing administration to the Surgeons.
Duties and responsibilities- Surgical
- Assist the patients through the process from initial consultation to the completion of the surgery.
- Serving as the primary point of contact and emotional support for surgical patients from initial consultation through post-operative care.
- Provides a warm and engaging atmosphere to instill confidence in our patients and create an exceptional experience.
- Book specialist appointments and tests for patients prior to and following surgery.
- Expertly managing the surgical schedule, including booking, scheduling add-ons/emergencies, and filling cancellations from the waitlist.
- Coordinating all required pre- and post-operative tests, appointments, and medical clearances.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families, answering any questions they may have about the procedure
- Answering telephone and emails with questions about surgical times, pre op instructions and post op instructions
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and accurately updating all patient information in the electronic medical record (Accuro EMR experience is an asset).
- Assist patients with their consent forms and documentation.
- Follow up as needed to ensure medical clearances are obtained by the patients prior to surgery.
- Scheduling emergencies and add on surgeries.
- Understanding surgical procedures, such as the necessary time surgery takes to properly maintain a surgical schedule.
- Ensure all surgical case are scheduled in a timely manner in accordance with the Physician directions.
- Ensure patients receive their pre and post op prescription where required.
- Call patients the day prior to surgery to confirm arrival time, Surgical Centre address, and ensure all medications that need to be discontinued were in fact discontinued.
- Perform other related duties, as required by Management.
Experience and skills:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a Surgical Booking Coordinator role preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records software. Accuro EMR considered an Asset.
- Formal computer and/or IT experience is an asset.
- Connect care experience is an asset.
- Excellent phone etiquette.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workflow.
- Desire to provide an exceptional patient experience.
- Strong Organizational skill's
- Attention to detail and thoroughness.
- Able to effectively communicate in various forms (e.g., verbal, written) to patients and members of a team.
- Accurate inputting of data.
- Aptitude using MS Word, MS Excel, EMR, Netcare.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Good knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Candidates must be willing to work 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 5 days/week) We offer competitive compensation.
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
