Job Overview
Strait Land Surveying is a well-established Land Surveying office in Sechelt, BC. We have been providing legal and construction survey services on the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas since 1972.
We are currently seeking a Survey Technician or Technologist for full time employment which could include both office and field work. Field work tasks will involve assisting the crew chief with building layout, topographic & site surveys, boundary re-establishment, road works layout, subdivision, and other legal surveys. Office work will require drafting experience and competence using Civil 3D to prepare various types of survey plans and to carry out calculations for field work.
We have projects throughout the Sunshine Coast, from Port Mellon to Earl’s Cove, including surrounding islands and inlets. We typically work from 8am - 4:30pm with some opportunity for overtime.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience; in the range of $25-35/hour. The successful applicant will enjoy working in an enthusiastic, team-oriented environment within a beautiful coastal community with abundant outdoor activities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys using total stations, GPS units to gather precise spatial data.
- Collect and verify data related to topography, boundaries, utilities, and existing structures for project planning and design.
- Utilize AutoCAD software to create detailed survey drawings and maps that meet project specifications.
- Manage data collection workflows efficiently, ensuring all information is accurately recorded and stored in databases.
- Apply GIS tools to analyze spatial information, produce maps, and support geographic analysis for project needs.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to interpret survey data and provide technical insights.
- Maintain meticulous records of field activities, data logs, and survey results for quality assurance and future reference.
Experience
- Proven experience in land surveying or construction environments with a solid understanding of survey techniques and equipment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD software is a plus and data management systems.
- Familiarity with construction processes and the ability to interpret construction plans and drawings.
- Strong skills in data collection methods, database management, and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of survey standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements relevant to the industry.
