Taproom Team Member - Bar + Kitchen
Odd Company Brewing - Wîhkwêntôwin
#105, 12021 102 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB
This is NOT just a kitchen position and it is NOT just a front-of-house position. You will do both in the same shift, back and forth. You greet, you pour, you cook, you clean. You're oddly talented!
The Must-Haves
- Valid ProServe certification
- Regular weekend and holiday availability, including evenings/closing shifts
- Comfortable working BOTH front of house and in the kitchen
- Able to safely lift and move 30 L beer kegs, including stepovers and stairs
- Reliable, communicative and comfortable working as part of a small team
Part-time and full-time hours may be available depending on availability and fit. Our space is small and everyone jumps in where they're needed. On any given shift, you might be helping someone navigate our house beer list, pouring pints (two at a time if you can!), taking orders at the POS, preparing dishes, proudly serving said dish you just plated, washing dishes, checking in with tables, stocking the bar, keeping an eye on tabs, carrying a keg upstairs, holding a pint in the air for social media, changing a light bulb, or scrubbing a baseboard.
If you're looking for a role where you do one specific thing all shift, this probably isn't it. If you're good at staying busy, talking to people to ensure they have a good time, and solving a little problem here and there, keep reading.
What You'll Be Doing
- Welcoming customers and creating a friendly, comfortable taproom experience
- Taking food and drink orders at the till
- Pouring beer and other beverages
- Helping customers navigate our beer and food menus
- Preparing food according to our recipes and procedures
- Running food
- Washing dishes, cleaning, restocking and keeping the space organized
- Completing opening and closing duties
- Changing and moving kegs
- Noticing what needs doing and jumping in
- Working with the team to keep things moving when it gets busy
You'd Probably Do Well Here If You...
- Are personable and comfortable talking with all kinds of people
- Like learning and can help someone find a beer or food item they'll actually enjoy
- Can follow recipes and procedures consistently
- Don't mind dishes, cleaning or the less-glamorous parts of hospitality
- Are a practical problem-solver
- Can stay organized and friendly when things get busy
- Are comfortable around dogs - they're welcome on our outdoor patio
- Are comfortable using digital scheduling and team-communication tools
Previous serving, bartending, brewery, restaurant or kitchen experience is an asset. Previous beer knowledge is great, but you don't need to arrive as a beer expert - but we would like you to learn about what we do!
About the Schedule
We're a hospitality business open nearly every day of the year, and our hours shift seasonally.
Shifts can include daytime, evening, weekend, holiday and closing work.
Regular weekend availability is a must.
We generally don't schedule split shifts.
When you apply, please give us your actual availability - ideally the earliest you can start and latest you can work each day. If your availability is limited to only a few hours on one or two days each week, this probably isn't the right position.
A Couple Things About Our Space
Our Wîhkwêntôwin taproom is 18+ ; no minors.
Dogs are welcome on our outdoor patio.
It's a small operation. Customer service, beer service, cooking, dishes, cleaning, stocking and lifting aren't separate departments here - they're all part of keeping the taproom running.
